Wage: $22.00-$24.00 per hour (depending on experience) Building Bridges Community Support is looking to expand our team! We are currently seeking a support worker for our people in Victoria and Langford. The position may start off part time and extend to full time as new contracts come in. The position is working one to one with adults with diverse abilities in their homes, and around the community. Individuals have a wide range of needs, skills, and abilities.
Requirements: (these are the minimum requirements that MUST be met to be considered as a candidate)
Minimum 2 years experience working with people with diverse abilities, including people: with autism; who have challenging (sometimes violent) behaviours; who have experienced trauma, and/or may be living with mental health challenges; are elderly and living with dementia.Driver's licenceDriver's abstractYour own reliable vehicleBusiness insurance for vehicle, including $3,000,000 third party liabilityCriminal record checkMedical competency letter from a doctorFully vaccinated (min of 2 vaccinations)Assets: Diploma/degree in related field (Behaviour Intervention, Community Support Worker, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Education, etc.)Non-violent crisis intervention certificate, or other related trainingAwareness and open mindedness around gender identity and sexual orientationExperience working with seniors and/or people with dementiaKnowledge of community resourcesDutiesDevelop trusting relationships with participants in order to provide the best support possibleHelp with daily routines, including some personal care (i.e. bathing), chores around the house, cooking, etcTake participants on outings around the communityHelp plan and work towards achieving participants' personal goalsWork in cooperation with the family and other professionals, if applicable, to make sure there is consistency in care/support, and ensure the participants' needs are being metMaintain a high level of professionalism, including good personal boundaries and clear communicationManage challenging behaviours in a calm, respectful, and dignified mannerManage your own schedule, working with the individuals' needs and availabilities (occasional evenings and weekends may be required), and primarily work independentlyWrite daily summaries, and year end reportsAssist participants to develop person centred goals, record progress towards goals, and keep a record of what you are doing with them – submitted monthly
