About the roleWe are seeking a part-time, high capacity Communications Specialist with previous non-profit experience to join our team.
Reporting to the Managing Director, this position oversees all aspects of internal and external communication strategies to ensure a clear, concise, and cohesive message through all of Give Freedom's communication avenues.
The Communications Specialist will be responsible for developing content for digital and print media, campaigns, general branding, product development, website, and strategically important internal communication.
The Communications Specialist will have excellent written communication and story-telling skills, strong verbal communication, innovation, and attention to detail.
The Communications Specialist is responsible for: Ensuring clear, concise, cohesive and strategically responsive messaging through all of Give Freedom's communication avenuesQuality control—all external communications to be QC'd by the Communications Specialist before going to marketContinuing to develop Give Freedom's branding, authority, and market voice, to further develop trust, and engagement with our mission and visionEnsuring communication effectively engages with our major donor target audience, donor target audience, and the wider support baseTaking the communication lead when working collaboratively with other team members such as the creative specialist, partnership managers, and external contractorsKey ResponsibilitiesSupporter-Facing Communications Copywriting—major donor proposals, field stories, annual reports, impact reports, website copy, EDMs, social media posts, FAQs, and standard responsesDevelop and review campaign and branding communications plans and strategies, as requiredEnsure all marketing collateral and activities are in alignment with marketing policies, the strategic business plan, review and funding policies, core messaging framework, and style guideQuality Control for any communication that goes to marketAssist in developing donor journey servicing and communicationsInternal Communications As Give Freedom grows as an organisation, the need for sound and consistent internal communication will increase. The Communications Specialist will:
Assist with writing and updating key policies relating to the marketing and communications departmentReview and QC strategic business documentsReview important internal team-wide communicationsRelationships & Collaboration Participate in team meetings, and provide regular updates to the teamParticipate in Marketing team planning meetingsWork with the Marketing team to develop annual and quarterly marketing & communications plansWork with the Executive Team to understand key messages and strategic communication requirementsCoordinate external contractors as requiredLiaise with key stakeholdersTraining of key stakeholders in marketing branding, messaging guidelines, campaigns, and products as requiredKey Activities Regular EDMs, news articles, and social media postsCampaigns/Appeals - End of Financial Year, Christmas, EmergencyAnnual reportsRegular review of website content and FAQsProposals and product development as requiredDonor servicing and communicationsPartnerships resourcesTo be successful in this role you will have:Required Qualifications Bachelor degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field
Desired Qualifications Masters degree in a related field
Required Experience 5+ years of experience in similar or related roleExperience working in the not-for-profit sectorCore competenciesExcellence in communication and story-tellingUnderstanding of donor journeys and experienceUnderstanding of international developmentStrong attention to detailCan work independently and collaboratively with othersThis is a permanent part-time (12-16 hrs per week) position, with the potential for hours to increase in the future. As our team works part-time—predominantly from Tuesday to Thursday—this role would suit an experienced candidate looking for flexibility around other commitments, as the specifics of days/hours worked can be negotiated or worked flexibly as required.
This position may require a limited amount of travel to Newcastle for key events during the year.
