SLSQ is looking for a Communications Coordinator to join our State Operations Communications Centre!
About the Role: The role of the Communications Coordinator in the State Operations and Communications Centre (SOCC) is an operational role within SLSQ that works collaboratively with the Operations Centre team, the broader SLSQ organisation, and emergency service providers. The purpose of this role is to receive incident information, enter details into the incident management system, and alert the most appropriate resources to respond to the incident. This may include the dissemination of information to members of the public and emergency services agencies. Additionally, the Communications Coordinator supervises and supports the operational dispatch team. This is based in Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast. This role is on a rotating roster system, including weekend work.
Benefits at SLSQ: Access to salary packaging benefits.Paid parental leave.Help save lives!Key Responsibilities: Effective Communication and Collaboration: Communicate and interact effectively to build and sustain collaborative professional relationships as a well-disciplined member of the SOCC service delivery team.Incident Management: Receive incoming requests for urgent and non-urgent assistance, triage those requests, and determine the appropriate course of action in accordance with SLSQ standard operating procedures (SOPs).Resource Dispatch and Management: Dispatch and manage multiple resource responses simultaneously in accordance with SLSQ SOPs.Liaison: Liaise as necessary with operational staff and other service providers to ensure effective mobilisation of resources.Fitness for Duty: Present fit for duty by being physically and psychologically healthy, illness and fatigue free, and proactively utilise staff support and counselling services when required.Performance Monitoring and Improvement: Monitor, review, and critically reflect on the quality of individual performance, be receptive to feedback, and work towards continuous improvement in your practice.Training and Mentorship: Actively participate in the mentoring, teaching, and development of peers and support volunteers and staff in meeting their learning objectives.Train and mentor dispatch team members, fostering their development and ensuring they adhere to SLSQ standards and protocols.Supervision and Support: Supervise and support the operational dispatch team, ensuring they have the guidance and resources needed to perform their duties effectively.Skills, Qualifications, and Experience: Working with Children Blue Card.National Police Record Check.Proof of Identity Check (points of identification and working rights).Demonstrable commitment to empowering and respecting children and young people.Moderate understanding of child safety and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.Highly Desirable: Certificate II in public safety and beach patrol experience (desirable) or relevant emergency service experience in an operational role or Emergency Operations Centre experience.Minimum typing speed 40 wpm and +90% accuracy.Broad computer competence including Microsoft Office and web-based data systems.Well-developed oral and written communications.About SLSQ: Surf Life Saving Queensland employs over 550 people throughout Queensland.
