As we continue our pursuit of NPS +30, we need to transform the way we engage with our customers and colleagues. As the Senior Staff Data Scientist within the Chief Data and Analytics Office, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of next-generation Gen AI Chatbots and AI models supporting the bank to level-up AI adoption. This role involves thought leadership, AI solution design, and designing and developing cutting-edge AI models to uplift customer experience.
As the Senior Staff Data Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring CBA continues to be a trusted leader in the responsible use of AI. You are passionate about all things related to Data Science, Gen AI, and Machine Learning tools, highly technical, and enjoy being fully hands-on with coding in Python and R. You will be driving projects and outcomes, being heavily focused on the design and implementation of models and monitoring.
You will come with a strong business acumen along with demonstrable experience in using statistics and machine learning and will be part of a high-performing team of data scientists that concentrates on data models to solve data science problems.

Passionate about building market-leading commercial Gen AI Chatbot machine learning systems that utilise state-of-the-art Gen AI Solutions. Excited about tackling new challenging business problems in Data Science using Gen AI tools. Adept at using a combination of commercial and technical Data Science models to find unique solutions in adding strategic value to the business. Collaborative in nature to work with product teams, curious enough to solve data problems, and courageous in positively influencing senior stakeholders. Natural leaders that enjoy a collaborative environment and want to help foster a positive and inclusive culture that promotes development and growth. Can provide technical and thought leadership on emerging Gen AI technologies and the impact they might have towards the strategic objectives of the business stakeholders. Are interested in coaching and nurturing junior members of the Data Science team. Can build and develop ML and AI solutions and utilise statistical models to drive business decisions and outcomes. Can develop and implement Gen AI solutions in collaboration with business representatives and other technical teams, including MLOps teams, Solution Architects, and product owners to provide implementable AI and ML solutions and insights to drive engagement and customer satisfaction. Are experienced in working with large and complex data within a corporate environment and automating processes. Have a natural talent to communicate and positively influence a diverse and large group of stakeholders and cross-functional teams. Tech skills:
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all, but experience or exposure to any ML systems and statistical modelling will set you up for success in this role!
Solid foundations in statistical modelling, Gen AI, Data Science, and ML models. Proficient in developing and deploying a variety of AI/data science solutions including generative AI, NLP, and reinforcement learning. Core background in Software Engineering and Data Science streams. Highly experienced in coding skills that allow you to build and implement ML model ideas easily and quickly (R or Python, PySpark, SQL, AWS/Azure). Strong leadership skills to handle the end-to-end Gen AI and ML project delivery and communicate timelines and key milestones to stakeholders and product owners. Degree level qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar subjects. Working with us:
