See yourself in our team
Retail Technology is responsible for the world-leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of CommBank - from innovative product platforms for our customers, to essential tools within our business. We also use technology to drive simplicity and better banking, an essential component of great customer service underpinning a strong emphasis on software development as a craft and the adoption of industry best engineering practices.
You'll be part of the Mobile Engineering Native team which is responsible for the technology direction and core functions that underpin our award winning CommBank Mobile App for both iOS and Android. We support over 200 engineers to deliver highly engaging experiences to our 8.5 million+ digital active customers. Whether you're driven by using data to build fascinating apps, or you're passionate about your creativity when designing one, you will feel at home with us. You'll work alongside a fantastic team of engineers, and highly invested managers focused on your career progression.
As a Senior Engineering Manager (Chapter Lead), you will:
Lead iOS and Android engineers, instilling a growth mindset and innovative ways of working. Play an important role in steering the organisation by providing expert advice relating to technology, solution design and architecture, people leadership and hiring. Bring a blend of people management and technical expertise and will be responsible for shaping the evolution of the technical squad. Contribute to the technology strategy, draft quarterly crew memos, prioritise backlog, define delivery roadmaps, and decide which problems to invest in solving. We're interested in hearing from people who:
Have demonstrated experience in leading high-performing cross-functional engineering teams with a solid technical background, balancing hands-on contributions, coaching, and leading delivery. Are passionate about leading teams that build industry-leading customer interactive retail mobile products from scratch. Have worked with a wide group of enablers, including user experience designers, customer operations, accessibility advocates, and product owners. Promote open communication and create a safe working environment where our engineers' voices are heard to achieve great outcomes for our organisation, our customers, and the community. Effectively communicate engineering practice standards and consistent ways of working across squads and CBA that align to industry standards. Constructively challenge the status quo while influencing stakeholders and building diverse and inclusive teams. Tech Skills: We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:
Proven track record of leading a team of high-performing engineers with a solid technical background in modern iOS and Android stack. Solid experience with architecture and design, code reviews, and estimation. Experience working in a large and distributed engineering ecosystem moving towards higher DevSecOps maturity. An understanding of developing strong quality engineering practices within the delivery lifecycle. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and observability within a mobile context. If this sounds like you, apply today!
Working with us: Whether you're passionate about customer service, driven by software engineering, or called by creativity, a career with us is for you. We support our people with the flexibility to balance where work is done with at least half their time each month connecting in the office. If you're already part of the Commonwealth Bank Group (including Bankwest, x15ventures), you'll need to apply through to submit a valid application. We're keen to support you with the next step in your career.
