About the Role: The Commercial Manager is the key commercial resource for AGL's Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Operations team. You will be responsible for managing key commercial relationships with customers, suppliers, distribution networks and counterparties. You will lead commercial negotiations and the internal AGL processes required to approve commercial agreements. You will be working closely with a range of stakeholders, including Legal, Origination, Portfolio Analysis, Supply Chain and Procurement, as well as Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Customers.
This role will play a critical role in enabling growth by onboarding new partners, customers, and assets in order to achieve our ambition to grow the DER assets under orchestration to 1.6GW by FY27.
What you'll be doing: Lead negotiations with suppliers, including documentation and implementation of commercial arrangements, with legal support. Work with the Trading and Origination teams to negotiate transactions that deliver value and optimise financial performance. Work with the Trading and Analytical teams to develop business cases and manage the AGL processes and stakeholders to request approval for commercial agreements and new projects. Ensure all contracts are prepared, finalised and executed to meet AGL's requirements. Support C&I Customer Sales in commercial discussions for VPP. Help sales staff and customers understand the technology and market value drivers. Manage existing agreements with vendors, customers and counterparties. Identify and develop opportunities for AGL to expand its VPP. Educate, mentor and develop junior staff on commercial negotiations. About You: You will ideally have an understanding of the VPP technology and the underpinning value drivers, as well as Australia's distributed energy resources market, including small scale generation, battery storage and load curtailment. You will be an experienced Commercial Manager that thrives on autonomy and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
What you'll bring to the table: Tertiary qualifications in Law, Engineering, Finance or another quantitative discipline. Experience leading complex negotiations. Experience developing strategies to balance risk vs return and lower procurement costs. Demonstrated experience in a technical field such as energy, engineering or technology. Negotiation, contract development and contract management experience. The ability to understand and explain complex analytical concepts. Advanced communication, interpersonal, influencing and presentation skills. The ability to build relationships, lead and work collaboratively with diverse teams.
