The Australian Orthopaedic Association is seeking a Manager, Clinical Studies, to join their team in Adelaide. This is a full-time, 12-month maternity leave role, commencing with a handover period in November.
The opportunity: Working as part of a team, the Manager, Clinical Studies, plays a critical role in planning, supporting, and coordinating the implementation of clinical trial projects and studies.
In particular, this role involves:
Project Management: Planning and scoping the implementation of clinical trial projects/studies. Acting as the subject matter expert in relation to project objectives and progress. Planning, developing and managing a schedule of project meetings with the required steering & working group(s). Developing meeting agendas, minutes and actions. Monitoring project progress against the timeline and budget and implementing appropriate and timely adjustments to both as required. Planning, undertaking and overseeing project-related tasks, ensuring they are completed in accordance with agreed standards, performance indicators, timeframes and budgets. Enrolling, monitoring and supporting data collection sites, hospitals and surgeons. Devising and implementing methods to enhance participant recruitment, retention and management. Identifying and reporting on risks to projects and implementing risk mitigation strategies. Planning and implementing change management strategies in relation to Clinical Studies, as required. Overseeing the ethical conduct of studies.
Collaboration and Liaison: Working with stakeholders, including project teams and IT, to scope and plan project deliverables, and throughout the project, to meet project requirements. Building and sustaining relationships with an extensive network of internal and external stakeholders to support project objectives.
Reporting and Compliance: Contributing to and preparing reports for steering committees and working groups. Preparing high-quality position papers, briefings, reports and presentations for a range of audiences. Preparing, submitting and maintaining records of ethics applications across various ethics committees and hospital approval processes, and lodging amendments and reports to ethics committees as required.
To be successful in this role, applicants will have: Degree qualification in a relevant field with extensive relevant experience. Extensive experience and management expertise for complex projects. Additionally, the appointee will have the following knowledge and skills: Demonstrated high-level project management skills with a record of successfully coordinating and supporting projects through to completion in accordance with agreed standards, timeframes and budgets. Ability to manage and support a small team to achieve project outcomes. Highly developed planning and organisational skills, with experience in establishing priorities, allocating resources and meeting deadlines.
Highly-developed and demonstrated leadership and relationship management skills, including the ability to interact with and gain cooperation from with a variety of stakeholders
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including experience in developing professional documentation and presenting information
Advanced computer literacy with experience in the use of project management software and related application capabilities: Experience in or knowledge of the health/hospital system within Australia. AOA also owns and operates the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry (AOANJRR) in Adelaide, which is permanently funded by the Commonwealth Government under contract with the AOA. It is listed by the Commonwealth Government as a Federal Quality Assurance Activity.
The AOANJRR is the largest procedure registry within Australia. It monitors the outcome of all arthroplasty procedures nationally. This includes hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle and spinal disc replacement.
AOA is in the process of developing an Academy. It is envisaged that the Academy will become key to supporting AOA membership's quality improvement, research and publication activities by facilitating access to crucial medical data, thereby aiding in the advancement of medical knowledge and improving patient outcomes.
