Clinical Education Fellow - Division of Critical Care MedicineExpression of Interest – Post Graduate Clinical Education Fellow Northern Beaches Hospital Clinical School Macquarie Medical School 1 FTE Division of Critical Care Medicine – Northern Beaches Hospital Northern Beaches Clinical School in conjunction with Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) is currently seeking expressions of interest for the position of Post Graduate Clinical Education Fellow in the Division of Critical Care Medicine.
The Clinical Education Fellow is responsible for supporting the clinical teaching and learning activities for second, third, and fourth year Macquarie Medical School students undertaking their clinical placements in Critical and Acute Care at Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH). Activities include provision of teaching sessions, support and organisation of Doctors in Training to deliver teaching and supervision, and coordination of student assessment requirements.
The position will also contribute to the student orientation and support activities, including provision of pastoral care as needed. The position contributes to evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives including periodic review and enhancement of clinical experiences delivered at NBH.
Reporting to the Head of the Northern Beaches Clinical School, the Clinical Education Fellow provides a key point of contact between Doctors in Training, Clinical Supervisors, Clinical Leads, the Clinical School Officer, and the Head of School.
The Fellow will also provide clinical care and oversee the management of patients at NBH, including but not limited to consultation services to emergency medicine and inpatients as requested by other specialties, participation in outpatient clinics and services (if applicable), and an on-call roster and associated duties if required.
In the clinical role, the fellow will commit to undertake training and education of junior medical staff and registrars and ensure they are well supported. Participation in hospital meetings and committees is expected to promote best clinical practice and a culture of education and learning within the hospital, and maintain the fellow's own professional development.
Clinical duties will occur at Northern Beaches Hospital. Provision of education and assessment of medical students will for the most part occur at Northern Beaches Hospital at the Clinical School site and within the hospital educational precinct, but may at times also occur at Macquarie University.
The anticipated start date for the role is February 2025.
Key Responsibilities: Education Fellow In consultation with the Head of School and Critical Care Clinical Lead, support the provision of clinical experiences in Critical Care Medicine for fourth year medical students at Northern Beaches Clinical School.Support the implementation of the curriculum and assessment framework at Northern Beaches Clinical School.Develop and participate in a regular structured teaching program and assessments for medical students in Critical Care Medicine.Undertake periodic reviews of clinical experiences and clinical teaching.Provide responsive pastoral care and support to students on placement at Northern Beaches Clinical School, in alignment with any agreed policies and processes, and contribute as a Portfolio Mentor.Provide mentorship and support the development of Junior Medical staff involved in the delivery of clinical teaching and learning, clinical supervision, and assessments.Support students and supervisors undertaking Macquarie MD research projects at NBH, where required.Attendance at regular clinical school meetings.Clinical Role: Provide a clinical service consistent within your defined scope of practice for NBH including consultation services as required by other specialties/Senior Medical Officers and participate in an on-call roster (if required) as determined by the Head of Unit and Medical Director.Provide clinical management and timely treatment of patients under your care in emergency medicine / as an inpatient and outpatient where applicable.Supervise and commit to accurate documentation in and completion of medical records to reflect clinical decisions, tests, procedures, and discharge diagnoses and comply with patient admission and discharge policies: including documentation, planning of admission/discharge, day of procedure admission and timely discharge.Ensure appropriate arrangements are made for patients on discharge from hospital to maximise continuity of care and good health outcomes. Liaise with patient family and carers as appropriate and other health professions involved in ongoing patient management and care.Supervision of junior staff in the provision of care, including formal handover, communication between clinicians with deteriorating patients, and meeting standards of care.To be successful in the role you will: MBBS or equivalent and be currently registered or eligible for registration with AHPRA.Completed Fellowship of the Australian College of Emergency Medicine / College of Intensive Care Medicine / Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists or other specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award.Demonstrated ability and experience in coordinating or delivering clinical teaching and learning, including clinical supervision of medical students and Doctors in Training.Demonstrated high level of competence in interpersonal skills, consultation, and effective communication with staff of the hospital including Junior Medical staff, professional organisations, medical organisations, medical colleges, and universities.Demonstrated commitment and experience in driving a culture of clinical and educational excellence.Enquiries: For all enquiries, please contact the Head of Northern Beaches Clinical School, A/Prof Patricia Hullah at ******
