Healthcare Purchasing and System Performance are seeking an experienced Clinical Coder for a 12-month, fixed-term temporary opportunity. With this exciting opportunity, you will support accurate and efficient clinical coding services within the State Health Information Management (HIM) and Clinical Coding Support Team.
As a Clinical Coder, you will accurately assign specific morbidity and procedural classifications to patient episodes to meet data reporting requirements of Queensland Health. The clinical coder is acknowledged as having competent level clinical coding skills and knowledge across a broad range of specialties through a minimum of 2 years (full-time) coding experience in a hospital setting with exposure to various levels of complexity and specialties. In this role, you will undertake auditing activities, data verification, and clinical liaison to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of inpatient morbidity data. Additionally, you will provide support to other clinical coding staff through advice, guidance, and mentoring. This role will involve paid travel to regional facilities across Queensland.
The successful person Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification in the Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-AM) with the appropriate registration authority, including any endorsements to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of duty; and
Successful completion of a certified Clinical Classification course; orBachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent; andExperience of clinical coding in a Tertiary healthcare setting – a minimum of 2-year full-time coding experience.About us The Department of Health is responsible for the overall management of the public health system in Queensland. The State Health Information Management (HIM) and Clinical Coding Support Team provide strategic consultancy advice, support, guidance, and mentoring to Hospital and Health Service executive, finance and health information management, and clinical coding teams in relation to activity data as it pertains to healthcare funding. This includes health information data flows, activity data standards, clinical coding, coding audit, optimisation opportunities, and workflow improvement.
