You will lead a high-performing laboratory team of approximately 35 staff and oversee testing and operations. This role is critical in driving laboratory excellence and ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance within the clinical biochemistry function.As the Clinical Biochemistry Unit Manager, you will be instrumental in strategic planning, managing client relationships and resources, and optimising laboratory performance to meet clinical requirements. You will also manage the department's operating plan and budget while leading initiatives for continuous improvement and innovation in lab practices.With flexibility in hours of work ranging from 7am to 6pm and a number of benefits, this is a great career opportunity for an experienced leader to take on a pivotal role in a forward-thinking, results-driven environment.DUTIESOversee departmental testing and the development, validation, and implementation of laboratory methods and protocols.Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and maintain accreditation requirements.Manage the department's annual business plan, operating budget, and financial KPIs.Lead workforce planning, recruitment, and performance management to maintain a skilled and engaged team.Implement quality and workflow improvement initiatives to meet operational goals and client expectations.Collaborate with internal teams to manage capital expenditure and resource planning.Ensure the department meets client Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and turnaround time (TAT) requirements.Provide expert scientific statements or witness support if required.Stay updated on current scientific advancements in equipment and technology.SELECTION CRITERIAWe are seeking a proactive and inspiring manager who can effectively lead and motivate a diverse team, fostering a collaborative environment that drives excellence in laboratory performance.From a technical perspective, the ideal candidate will have a solid grasp of biochemistry techniques including strong understanding of protein electrophoresis, automated chemistry, and immunoassay techniques. Familiarity with chromatography is a plus, along with experience in method development and validation, particularly in protein electrophoresis.To succeed in this role, you will need:A Degree, Masters, or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.Several years of experience as a manager/senior scientist within clinical biochemistry or a related field.Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide staff.Strong experience in managing rosters, KPIs, and operational performance.A track record of driving continuous improvement and innovation within a laboratory environment.Exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to challenges.Ability to foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture.A commitment to maintaining up-to-date scientific knowledge and applying the latest advancements in technology and methodologies.BENEFITSYou will be offered a competitive salary based on experience, onsite parking and enjoy access to a range of employee benefits, including exclusive discounts, professional development opportunities, and programs designed to support your health and wellbeing.
