Seeking the best suited applicant to join our hard working team to assist in the provision of an effective Pathology service including Phlebotomy and Specimen Reception for the Redland Hospital Laboratory.This role will assist in the effective operation of laboratory service, and phlebotomy if required, within Redland Hospital and Princess Alexandra Group by participating in general preanalytical duties specifically relating to the Central Specimen Reception (CSR) Department and if required participating in the Pathology Collection service.Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring the cleaning of work benches, trolleys, and equipment, meeting Queensland Health WHS and Infection Control procedures and policies.Liaise with patients as well as medical and non-medical staff in a professional manner to ensure the correct processing of specimens and efficient operation of the specimen reception department.Key competencies (role specific criteria)You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:Knowledge or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations, pathology test names and specimen types.Availability to work all shifts on the existing and future roster patterns, ability to undertake additional shifts to backfill holiday and sick leave.A working knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn, all aspects of pre-analytical specimen processing (CSR). Data entry skills and the use of MS Word and Excel a distinct advantage.Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner with and without supervision, ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines, ability to effectively use, or quickly acquire ability to use, the Laboratory Information System.An established history of positive teamwork and respectful behaviour. High level of interpersonal and communication skills to enable effective, cooperative interaction within a work group and between clients.Qualifications, registrations and other requirementsPlease detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.We understand that some people may require adjustments to the workplace or the way the work is performed.
