This position is responsible for the provision of a broad range of therapeutic and support services for children who have experienced sexual assault and/or have problematic sexual behaviours.About Us:Desert Blue Connect is a leading not-for-profit community organisation in Geraldton, Western Australia that offers specialist family violence response, emergency accommodation, primary prevention of family violence, rural support services and women's health. We are committed to supporting communities and people by providing quality service delivery, advocacy and prevention initiatives.The Role:The Child Sexual Assault Counsellor provides counselling and case management to children and young people and their families affected by child sexual abuse and children's and or young people who are responsible for, or at risk of sexually abusing other children. The Counsellor will provide a variety of therapeutic interventions, using evidence-based models. The service assists children and young people to recover from the harmful impacts of child sexual abuse and works with families and communities to support children.Minimum Requirements:Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or similar Social Sciences and relevant experience.Eligibility for membership to relevant professional body.Highly developed counselling and assessment skills with experience working therapeutically with individual children who have experienced child sexual assault and trauma.Experience working with families with complex needs and providing them with strategies to support abused children.Knowledge and understanding of the dynamics, context and complexity of issues involved with child sexual abuse, sexually reactive behaviours, relationship and familial conflict.Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently.Demonstrated ability to work compassionately and effectively with Aboriginal people and people from a culturally and linguistically diverse background.Flexibility to travel for rural counselling in the Midwest.Child Centred Play Therapy Training.Required licenses or certifications:Must hold Australian citizenship, or be a permanent resident of Australia.Proficient in the use of technology including email, the internet and Microsoft Office.National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check.Evidence of qualification(s).The Salary:Remuneration according to Desert Blue Connect EBA.Desert Blue Connect employees may take advantage of significant salary packaging arrangements which provide substantial financial benefits.
