About the role The Chief Building Regulator (CBR) is a transformative leadership role at QBCC, responsible for driving significant reform and reshaping Queensland's regulatory landscape. Tasked with providing strategic direction to the Regulatory Services Group and operational teams, the CBR is charged with enhancing building standards, delivering high-quality regulatory services, and implementing government reform agendas.
Leading a multidisciplinary division of over 400+, the CBR ensures consistency, efficiency, and transparency while strengthening QBCC's reputation as a trusted and innovative regulator. Acting as a key advisor to the CEO/Commissioner and industry stakeholders, this role is critical to elevating customer interactions and achieving proven regulatory outcomes that shape the future of Queensland's construction industry.
About you You are an accomplished executive leader with a proven track record in regulatory environments and transformative change. You bring a strong foundation in business, law, finance, or policy, supported by tertiary qualifications and extensive experience leading multidisciplinary teams. Your exceptional ability to influence, negotiate, and inspire will drive a culture of accountability, innovation, and performance at QBCC.
You are adept at navigating complex operating environments, providing strategic advice to senior leadership, and implementing large-scale change to achieve superior outcomes. Knowledge of building and construction industry frameworks and legislation is highly desirable, as is a commitment to shaping a more sustainable, customer-focused regulatory future.
