About the role Furniture category Opportunity to drive your merchandise career further Own the P&L and work hybrid Source, negotiate, review, communicate…we are looking for an experienced commercial category leader with passion and skill for developing and overseeing the category plan and growth of the category proposition in the marketplace, focused on meeting and exceeding customer expectations.
Utilise your product development and category management expertise to bring new ranges to life, with a focus on key furniture trends, innovative design, and customer appeal. This role will lead the customer-centric, multi-channel value proposition and strategy for the category portfolio, centred on the pillars of the widest range, low prices, and best experience. By analysing market trends and customer data, you'll ensure our offerings are aligned with evolving preferences. You will develop and execute a strategic trade plan that meets category sales, net margin, and EBT targets, delivering growth and profitability across all channels.
Delivering the business strategy and ensuring a compelling merchandise product and service offer is delivered across all channels to meet customer needs, this key role will coach, develop and mentor a Category Assistant.
Key points to consider:

Confident management of key metrics including sales, margin, total income, Inventory management, GMROI, GMROS and Category EBT. Expand on current trends, bringing a trend-based approach to design and driving innovation in the category. Utilise your product development and category management expertise to bring new ranges to life, with a focus on furniture key trends and design. Develop and deliver Category plans with the support and collaboration with key stakeholders across the organisation. Autonomous role that allows you to use your product development and category management experience to bring new ranges to life for customers. Be part of an innovative and successful merchandise team. About you As an experienced retail Category Manager, you enjoy building and establishing strong relationships across business functions and all key stakeholders. Your direct sourcing and product lifecycle management experience will enable you to interpret and act on market trends.
Ability to influence and negotiate and present, sees you striking formidable commercial rapport and effectively communicating with all key stakeholders toward achieving positive outcomes. Your innovative and customer centric mindset is well balanced with commercial acumen and analytical capability with a focus on continuous improvement.
Key attributes:
Established analytical capabilities with strong data literacy. Well developed financial/commercial acumen with an established understanding of merchandise financial KPI's. Strong communicator and negotiator who can influence and present. Extensive experience in a merchandise category environment, with direct sourcing expertise at both national and international levels. Ability to identify and act on macro and micro trends. Demonstrated success in designing and launching products in a retail environment, leveraging trend insights and data-driven analysis to align with market demand. Sound interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and communicate with internal and external stakeholders' capability. Self-motivated, success-oriented, and a team player with a proactive attitude. Tertiary study in Business, Commerce or Engineering would be an advantage.
