Your Role The Casualty Underwriter is responsible for underwriting new and renewal Casualty accounts in accordance with Chubb guidelines. They also play a key role in developing business relationships with an assigned panel of Independent and Global brokers within their authority.
It therefore requires an ability to build and maintain relationships with a panel of brokers and tenacity and skill in pursuing target accounts. It also requires that the individual establishes and executes business plans to maximise opportunities with those brokers.
Your Responsibilities Achievement of the Personal premium budgetUnderwriting Within scope of delegated authority:Evaluates and accepts or declines new lines, renewals and endorsementsEvaluates and makes recommendation for acceptance or declination on risks which exceed authorityRecommends account trade off decisionsAssists manager in providing input on profit analysis, premium planning, market and environment analysis, etc.Responsible for underwriting results of assigned producers.Working within the Casualty department, on an assigned broker panelUnderwriting a Primary, Umbrella and Excess Liability portfolio in accordance with Chubb underwriting strategySelect new risks and underwrites renewals for assigned book of business and/or for designated speciality classes or market segmentsProducer RelationsUnderwriter is responsible for profit and premium growth of assigned producers. This would include producer account control and book composition and analysisVisits assigned producers to discuss risks, communicate Chubb's business appetites, and to produce new businessManages relationships with assigned producersResponsible for providing supervisor with input on premium planning variancePeople DevelopmentMay have responsibility for assisting in underwriting training and producer relationsLooks for solutions to unique underwriting situationsUnderstands pricing techniquesUnderstands account servicing costsHas a working knowledge of alternative risk transferUnderstands development of reserves by individual case and by book of businessHas a working knowledge of the key accounts in the BranchUnderstands the underwriting appetites of the other departments and how those relate to interdepartmental accountsUnderstands the broker selection and appointment processMakes recommendations for tailoring coverage and manuscripting policiesIs familiar with the products / services of key competitorsIs comfortable with a wide range of negotiation techniquesHas demonstrated ability to work well with people and influence decisions.Desirable: Has demonstrated ability to effectively train entry level underwriters and to orient new experienced hiresWe offer you the opportunity to work as part of a dynamic and agile environment where continuous development is encouraged throughout your career, both locally and globally.
