Are you experienced in the Travel and Tourism industry? Do you have an interest in training and developing skills in others? Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is seeking an enthusiastic Travel and Tourism educator to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality training and education to students pursuing careers in tourism, travel, and related fields. This position offers the opportunity to inspire the next generation of professionals and contribute to the growth of the sector. The role of an educator at CIT is diverse and as a professional educator, key components of this position are to help, construct, guide and enhance the learning process of our students whilst maintaining strong connections with industry. Industry experience and relevant qualifications in the field of Travel and Tourism are essential in this role, as is demonstrated experience in teaching and/or mentoring travel and tourism professionals.
If you have extensive experience in the Travel & Tourism industry, but do not hold the mandatory qualification Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116), CIT can support you in achieving this qualification.
RESPONSIBILITIES Use of flexible, innovative, and blended learning tools to deliver educational programs that provide students the opportunity to achieve the required training outcomes. This may involve mentoring, facilitating student support and developing customised learning pathways.Apply CIT quality training and assessment systems which may include: subject mapping, program review and improvement (PRI), moderation, industry validation, and the development of assessment tools, subject and teacher guides.Contribute to an inclusive high performing team through innovative practice, collaboration, and teamwork.Maintain and enhance relationships with industry and internal stakeholders to promote, support and inform Travel and Tourism programs. Support development and delivery of workforce development solutions to meet industry needs.Maintain accurate and compliant records of student activity and performance. Maintain and update student progress and other details on the institute's student information management system.SELECTION CRITERIA The following capabilities form the criteria that are required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Demonstrated ability to provide quality learning experiences to a range of student cohorts including clear and timely feedback to students and strategies for improvement (this could include on the job training and mentoring).Demonstrated experience with current and new industry practices in the field of Travel and Tourism.Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member, with minimum supervision utilising well developed interpersonal and communication skills.Proven ability in the use of computer based management information systems.Professional and Personal Characteristics: Ensure all interactions of the department are consistent with the CIT cultural traits, ACT Public Service Values and Signature Behaviours, Respect, Equity and Diversity (RED), workplace health and safety (WHS) frameworks; and mandatory reporting obligations concerning suspected child abuse under the Children and Young People Act 2008.Capability to apply CIT policies and principles in relation to VET, RTO Standards and other educational standards.Demonstrated capability to effectively engage in a continuous improvement process.Create an environment that values and utilises the contribution of others.Eligibility/Other Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR REGISTRATIONS/LICENCING Relevant degree or vocational qualification in Travel and Tourism.Relevant industry experience in Travel and Tourism.Refer to the ACTPS CIT Educators EA 2023-2026, sub-Clause M10.4. All new employees engaged at or below the Educator Level 1.2 (TL1.6) must:hold a Training and Assessment Certificate IV level qualification (such as a TAE40116 or equivalent); orwhere the full qualification is not held, hold as a minimum prior to employment as an employee in any form, qualifications as required by the Standards for RTOs; andcomplete the full qualification within 12 months of engagement and be supervised by a suitably qualified person.DESIRABLE Experience and/or a qualification in Hospitality and Events, or a related field.Working With Vulnerable People Card.Note: This position will be offered on a casual basis and the full-time salary noted above will be paid pro-rata. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
