Over the last 5 years, the VPCC program has deliveredresearch with real-world impact, better medical care, and improved training forthe researchers and clinicians of the future. The program seeks to use largescale omics methods and predictive modelling approaches to identify newprecision/targeted therapies for childhood cancers of greatest unmet medicalneed. The CancerBioinformatics Research Assistant will be responsibleto spearhead computational analysis for bothcurrent and forthcoming multi-omics datasets sourced from patient populationsand pre-clinical models within our research programs. This role requires an excellentprofessional with a strong background in bioinformatics, adept researchassistance capabilities, and exceptional multitasking skills. Joining ourdynamic team of data scientists and cancer researchers, the successfulcandidate will contribute to a collaborative and supportive work environment.They will have the chance to drive new research avenues that align with currentthemes and engage extensively with fellow bioinformaticians. This position issituated within the Centre for Cancer Research, The Hudson Institute, and theMonash Bioinformatics platform, offering ample opportunities for professionalgrowth and interdisciplinary interaction. The position will report to the Lead Bioinformatician andmaintain close working relationships with the Next-Gen team. SELECTION CRITERIA The role will suit someone who has: A postgraduate (Masters or PhD) in a bioinformatics related area orprevious working experience in bioinformatics research with a keen interestin cancer research. Experience in Command Line tools, Linux and/or Bash, R, Python. Experience in data analysis on HPC resources is desirable. Experience in the processing and analyses of sequencing-based data. Good understanding of cancer biology. Good practice in consistent data quality control assessment. Good understanding of biostatistics. Problem-solving skills and independent thinking. Ability to support multiple research projects, effectivelycommunicate findings. Capability to work within a cross-disciplinary research team to meet agreed objectives. High-level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Your responsibilities include: Liaise with team members to perform data analysis and statisticalanalysis (including NGS based data, proteomics data, integrative dataanalysis). Support and contribute to student and staff bioinformatics-basedresearch projects Mange and track the data sharing withinternational collaborators. Supportthe development & implementation of multiple research projects throughapplication of bioinformatics and statistical knowledge EMPLOYMENT TERMS This position is a fixed term contract role in a Full time (1.0 FTE) capacity. Salaryis based on Research Support Group ranging from RSS X-Z dependent on level ofexperience/qualifications. Superannuation of 11% and very attractive salary packaging optionsare available.
