The strength of the TUNRA operating model has been in its ability to engage directly with industry and to provide research services that contribute further to the University's research and innovation objectives.TUNRA is seeking an enthusiastic Business Development Manager to join the growing TUNRA Connect team. The TUNRA Connect division was established in 2023 and has the primary role of working with the University academic community on facilitating consultancy and testing projects, as well as industry short courses. In this role you will be responsible for identifying, developing and converting new business opportunities in partnership with stakeholders including the University's research and professional staff. You will need to engage broadly with the University and form strong working relationships with University staff to capitalise on project opportunities and grow TUNRA Connect's new business revenue stream.Key Responsibilities for the role:Drive the approval process for commercial projects including liaising with the relevant University teams.Support the generation and submission of tenders, bids and relevant grant submissions.Establish and maintain an in-depth understanding of research capabilities of TUNRA and the University of Newcastle.Foster and maintain relationships with external project partners throughout the life of the project.Successfully negotiate substantial contracts and complex business development initiatives.Provide advice to University staff on how to conduct commercial projects with TUNRA.Develop project proposals in collaboration with the subject matter experts that meet the needs of the external partners, including project scoping, project budget, and negotiation.Provide contract management support for new projects.Implement engagement strategies that promote TUNRA's project facilitation capability within the University.Be active in internal and external business forums and groups.Key Requirements for the role:Undergraduate qualifications with relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.Proven expertise supporting projects through the development of scope, budget, contract management, and negotiations.Demonstrable capacity to deliver confidential and outstanding professional and project support in a complex environment whilst exercising judgement and discretion.A strong track record in successfully managing a range of competing projects and priorities, applying initiative and resolving complex issues.Demonstrated ability to build rapport and effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders including researchers and industry representatives.Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams, manage multiple projects and deliver expected outcomes within competing deadlines.Excellent written and oral communication skills with an awareness of the importance of relationship building and engaging professional interpersonal, influencing, negotiation and communication skills.Relevant systems knowledge and demonstrated high level computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe and MS Outlook (Mail and Calendar).Work and operate in a manner which supports the Health and Safety outcomes of our people and our business.Applications are welcome from a wide range of backgrounds; however, note that to be successful in the role the successful applicant will need to have some form of technical training.
