Purpose of the role: The purpose of this position is to work closely and collaboratively with our 11 HK-based partners, lawyers and regional BD colleagues to spearhead and deliver the BD-related goals as outlined in the firm's APAC growth plan for the HK office. The focus of this role is twofold - to do what it takes to 1) help our HK partners and lawyers attract, grow and maintain sustainable, profitable client relationships and 2) contribute to the implementation of a wide range of marketing initiatives that enhance our brand and connectivity with the market both in HK and more broadly across our regional and global network.
The successful candidate must have proven experience in all aspects of business development and demonstrable skills including strategy setting, client targeting, preparation of proposals, credentials and marketing materials, project management and ability to deliver events, sponsorships and thought leadership campaigns, working closely with regional and global colleagues to bring these to life within the Hong Kong market.
This position is based in Hong Kong and sits within the regional Asia Pacific BD team which comprises team members based in Beijing, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Perth, Shanghai, Singapore and Sydney.
Reporting to the Head BD, APAC, this role has managerial responsibility for one direct BDE report who is also based in Hong Kong. This role will work closely and collaboratively with the BDM responsible for our mainland China offices (also based in Hong Kong) on broader Greater China client events, programmes and initiatives.
Main duties and responsibilities: Manage all BD activities within the Hong Kong office as they relate to delivering the firm's growth strategy and APAC Business Development plans.Execute the firm's client relationship management programme ("Atlas") by: managing a number of clients with strong growth potential in the Asia Pacific region supporting multidisciplinary client teams in the pursuit of growth with these clients.Drive the generation of profitable revenue through:  project managing bids originating from the Hong Kong office maintaining up-to-date credentials for the Hong Kong office in the firm's master credentials database.Regularly share best practice and facilitate collaborative working between the firm's sectors and practice groups.Continue to enhance and grow Pinsent Mason's market profile by ensuring effective use of all market-facing communication channels, including media, membership bodies, social media etc (working with our APAC Communications Manager). Assist the Head BD, APAC with the formulation of and ongoing management of the BD budget for the Hong Kong office: ensure activity is aligned to strategy and provides value for money and effectively increases profile or client relationships.process business development expenses to ensure expenditure is consistent with agreed policies and plans.Manage the production of legal directory submissions for Hong Kong.Ensure BD materials are compliant with local legal requirements and are branded according to the brand guidelines, including liaising with the firm's design function, The Design Bar, to assist as needed.Mentor, manage and support the professional development and growth of your direct report. Coach and guide regional junior team members and HK-based Legal PAs around best practice client service to support their fee earners on credentials, contact and CV maintenance.Work with the Head of Business Development, Asia Pacific on regional projects and provide other team support as assigned. Relevant experience and key skills: Ideally 4-6 years' management experience.Experience of undertaking a similar role in a professional services/partnership environment.Strong knowledge of the Asia Pacific market. Knowledge of the five global sectors in which the firm markets itself would be desirable.Positive attitude with a healthy degree of humility.Motivated and confident with good communication skills and ability to build trusted working relationships.Diplomatic, tactful and a good team player, who gains the respect of people at all levels.Commercially aware with a track record in growing existing and new business within a partnership environment.
