The opportunity
We have an opportunity for a Senior Engineer / Hydrologist who would also be an enthusiastic manager and leader for our Hobart office team of up to six people.
Our Hobart office clients include all the major Tasmanian water managers, as well as emergency management authorities.
Our Hobart Office team also work on nationally significant projects that underpin flood modelling guidelines and national datasets used in flood modelling.
In this role your time would be shared between project involvement and management responsibilities.
You would manage our dynamic Hobart Office team, in close consultation with senior staff and Directors across our offices.
You would have the opportunity to build the team and help shape the culture of the office.
You would also apply your technical knowledge to cutting edge projects.

Your duties would include:
Contributing to the Firm's strategy and providing leadership for the Hobart Office team Client liaison and business development, maintaining our ongoing close relationships with our Tasmanian clients, and building our client base Management of the Hobart Office work program and resourcing, prioritising workloads whilst ensuring our client's needs are met Provide oversight and supervision of our projects to ensure successful project delivery, including management of large projects for our Tasmanian clients Management of the Hobart office team, including staff development Supporting and offering guidance to the team to enable them to perform successfully Technical inputs to projects, including hydrologic and / or hydraulic modelling The successful applicant will work as part of a dynamic team to develop and apply innovative solutions with the aim of delivering high quality solutions to our clients.
Opportunities include:
Undertake a range of flooding related projects including hydrology and numerical flood modelling Development and support of flood forecasting systems for dam safety management Modelling yields and water supply reliability to support sustainable water management for town water supply and irrigation Work on statewide flood modelling and forecasting for Tasmania for emergency management and response, and recovery Work on nationally significant flood projects, as well as research that will drive future practice Possible travel across the state and country for projects or conferences Regular in-house training and mentoring by industry leaders, developing and enhancing your knowledge Opportunities for study assistance and flexible working arrangements Support for attending CPD events and attaining or maintaining chartered status with Engineers Australia Your skills and experience
The position would suit a Civil / Environmental Engineer or Hydrologist with experience in the water industry.
To be successful, applicants need to address the following criteria:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science in water resources area More than seven years of post-graduate industry experience in water management, flood management, hydrology and / or hydraulic modelling Experience in interpreting model outputs to support water resource management, water supply and policy Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work collaboratively and lead project teams Problem solving skills with a high attention to detail Additional qualifications, attributes and skill sets that are highly desirable include:
Experience in leading teams in the water industry Experience in managing large water resource or flood modelling projects A strong understanding of the Tasmanian water sector Experience in the Australian consulting industry Postgraduate qualifications in relevant field How to apply
