About the job Linux Engineers implement, manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical and virtual infrastructure) that supports digital services.
Key duties and responsibilities: The Senior Linux Engineer is responsible for providing administration and support services for the Linux servers, back-up infrastructure and security logging systems. The Senior Linux Engineer ensures that the server environment is secure, stable, and administered effectively. The role engages broadly with stakeholders and vendors to ensure that the services provided are of high quality and meet the agency's requirements.
The role ensures that the agency can continue to deliver the Linux requirements for the projects whilst also maintaining operational stability across the existing environments.
The Senior Linux Engineer works with a team responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and security of:
All Linux instances (~600) including both Ubuntu and RHEL. Our client is trending away from the use of RHEL. Base services consumed by other technology teams such as: virtualisation (VMware), block and file storage (Pure Storage), backup (Cohesity) and index/search (Splunk). Core services relied on by the entire agency such as: DNS (BIND), NTP, SMTP (Postfix), web proxying (Squid and Forcepoint/Websense), RSA SecurID. Contract Type: TEMPORARY
