NHS HIGHLAND
Broadford Hospital
Position: Rural Emergency Physician
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: £106,936 - £128,368 per annum pro rata
We are looking for ED consultants and GPs to join our friendly and innovative team of Rural Emergency Physicians.
Are you an ED consultant who is keen to maintain a hands-on approach to emergency medicine, or a GP who loves emergency medicine but misses the aspect of continuity of care in traditional ED departments? We offer a unique opportunity to work in a small acute community hospital on the stunning Isle of Skye, where you can leave the stress of city life behind and find the ideal work/life balance.
As a member of our Rural Emergency Physician team, you will be based at the brand-new Broadford Hospital, eight miles from the Skye Bridge. Your work will involve seeing, assessing, and treating a wide variety of patients from across Skye, Lochalsh, and South West Ross, including seasonal tourists. You will manage critically ill medical or surgical patients, minor injuries, and the local GP OOH caseload in conjunction with our excellent Advance Nurse Practitioners. You will also care for our 19 in-patients, providing continuity of care from admission to discharge or transfer.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing acute medical and surgical patients, as well as rehabilitation and geriatric patients. Participating in weekly fracture and minor surgery clinics. Providing support to our midwifery-led birthing unit and nurse-led chemo/infusion and dialysis units. Full-time working is based on 40 hours per week, though some weeks may require more or less. The ED shifts are 12.5-hour day or night shifts. You should be on the specialist register for General Practice or Emergency Medicine. Prior experience in anaesthetics, minor surgery, fracture management, and inpatient care is advantageous; however, training will be provided by attachment to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, and other hospitals as required.
Your skills will be updated annually through two weeks of Anaesthetic/Airway Management experience and two weeks of other Acute Hospital experience, in addition to standard ten days per year of Study Leave.
A relocation package is available with local assistance in finding suitable accommodation.
Informal enquiries are welcomed by Dr. Jacqueline Bennebroek, Lead Clinician, tel: 01471 822491 or email.
Closing date: 30/12/2024
Job Reference: 203195
