The Role: Under the broad direction of the Assistant Secretary, Financial Change and Integration Branch, the Director Innovation and Business Process Improvement (IBPI) is required to exercise a significant degree of independence and perform an important leadership role within the Branch and Defence Finance Group (DFG).
As Director, you will serve as the lead change agent for the development of an innovation culture at DFG, implement major business process improvement initiatives and facilitate a cultural shift towards continuous improvement to help DFG evolve its services, procedures, capabilities, and products.
This position has people management responsibility. You will be accountable for developing, coaching and reviewing individual, team and business performance, and identifying opportunities for building team capability and continuous improvement.
The duties of the Director IBPI include the following (note: not all duties are required to be performed during a 12-month performance cycle):
Accountable for providing leadership and strategic direction to achieve the DFG Innovation and Improvement program objectives in supporting DFG future state and related reforms, including developing business delivery plans, strategies and priorities, program risks and dependencies and reporting on status to senior executive committees. Accountable for designing DFG's innovation framework, establishing governance structures, facilitating the systematic generation of ideas, and leading the execution of innovation strategies from ideation to implementation. Accountable for planning and managing allocated resources, setting program priorities, workflows, work area strategies, monitoring performance and evaluating business outcomes. Accountable for managing and leading a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people. Accountable for building strong trusted relationships with a network of stakeholders internally and externally, recognising shared agendas and working toward mutually beneficial outcomes. Accountable for creating a workplace culture that fosters creativity and views change as an opportunity for positive transformation, encouraging cross-functional collaboration, and empowering employees to embrace change with confidence and enthusiasm. About our Team: The role of the Defence Finance Group (DFG) is to provide the full range of financial advice, services and systems to the Defence Portfolio. With a growing team of over 800 people spread across Australia, with significant offices in Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney, DFG is the largest finance function in the Commonwealth.
DFG has been undertaking an expansive reform journey to ensure we are a trusted and professional business partner, delivering financial insight to inform decision-making across Defence. The Financial Change and Integration Branch (FCIB) was established in November 2022 to support this reform journey. As well as delivering some of the key financial systems that support the change agenda, our branch plays a lead role in supporting the people side of change. We have a strong focus on improving employee communication and engagement, change management and targeted learning and development solutions.

Our ideal candidate can demonstrate the following skills, experience and attributes:
An impressive track record of delivering results with at least 10 years' experience in Executive-level leadership roles in support of complex change agendas. Exemplary skills in communicating with influence in a range of media, including a demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate large forums, both in-person and online. First-rate stakeholder and relationship skills, including an ability to cultivate productive working relationships with people at all levels of an organisation. Excellent strategic thinking and planning skills, including in researching, developing and evaluating programs of work. A commitment to continuous improvement and leading high performing teams.
