Advanced Delivery - Legal, Perth
Led by an experienced Partner, A&O Shearman Advanced Delivery - Legal (ADL), Perth is cutting edge. It plays a key role in the project management of a matter through the use of the latest legal technology tools that result in a more advanced approach to the provision of legal advice and services.
ADL works across a wide range of A&O Shearman practice areas throughout the world including: International Capital Markets, Corporate, Disputes, Banking, and Intellectual Property.
The team comprises Legal Support Professionals and Junior Associates who are given world-class ongoing professional development, legal career pathways, and training opportunities, and who are supported and supervised by highly experienced Managing and Senior Associates.
Overview of role
We are seeking a Team Manager / Senior Associate specialising in Banking to contribute to the overall strategic as well as day-to-day operational management of the ADL. You will have a very high level of interaction with counterparts in other offices to enable them and their teams to operate as fully integrated members of wider matter teams. Senior Associates are expected to carry out a significant amount of BD and are main generators of work within their areas of specialism. You will lead project teams and are responsible for all aspects of people and talent management within the work group.
Role and Responsibilities
Manage teams of around 10 including both junior lawyers and Legal Support Professionals / Paralegals in Banking.
Establish and maintain the highest standards for quality, efficiency, and service including quality controlling the work of more junior members of the team.
Lead teams in the ADL to work with instructing offices on client matters.
Responsible for all aspects of people management within teams – quarterly feedback.
Attend weekly management and resourcing meetings.
Collaborate with Partners and instructing teams to define and deliver legal services projects and services.
Provide legal expertise, including drafting, reviewing and amending documentation, document management, legal research, maintaining and improving templates and precedents.
Manage and report on progress and liaise with internal and external clients to address points of relevance or concern and resolving queries and issues.
Involvement in pitches to clients (internal / external).
Key Requirements
Generally, minimum of 8 years PQE with at least 2 years external private practice experience or relevant secondment experience at A&OS.
Experience leading and coordinating complex multi-faceted matters, including multi-jurisdictional matters with large teams on international projects.
Experience of managing teams and supervising junior lawyers and/or trainees.
Commercially astute and deep expertise in either international transactional or disputes law, or alternatively very senior generalist legal experience.
A professional manner, with high levels of integrity, resilience and diplomacy.
Consistently demonstrate a professional manner with evidence of exceptional levels of judgement, commercial awareness and critical thinking.
Flexible, resourceful and prepared to take a hands-on approach, comfortable operating in a rapidly evolving new business and interested in identifying and shaping that evolution.
Strong focus on detail and high levels of self-motivation.
Proven ability to take ownership of own work.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Strong relationship-building skills – a team player with the ability to establish credibility and inspire confidence with clients and senior colleagues.
Demonstrate a high level of affinity with legal technology.
