About the team
This exciting role is situated within the Heritage and First Nations team – high performing professionals that deliver a quality heritage protection, conservation, compliance, and First Nations service for the City.
The team is situated in the Sustainability, Heritage and Compliance Branch of the Department Environment, Heritage, and Resilience which services City administration, the Council, and our community.
About your new role
The Built Heritage Advisor position provides specialist advice and support across the heritage compliance, conservation and protection work streams and reports to the Heritage Compliance Lead.
Key Responsibilities: Provide expert heritage advice on the conservation, management and adaptation of heritage buildings and structures.Oversee the care of the City's built heritage portfolio to ensure places are appropriately maintained and utilised for community benefit.Act as the technical lead in the approval process for modifications to built heritage places to ensure alignment with conservation principles and relevant legislation.Conduct site inspections to assess the condition of built heritage assets and recommend appropriate conservation or adaptive reuse strategies.Conduct heritage assessments and archival recording of built heritage.Develop and review heritage documentation pertaining to built heritage including management plans, drawings, and reports.Prepare statutory development applications and supporting documents, and design strategies, to manage change consistent with good heritage practice.Provide built heritage advice to property owners on all aspects of heritage conservation including maintenance and repairs, renovations, additions, and adaptive re-use options and assist with solutions to maintain and promote the significance of heritage places.Prepare impact assessments and conservation management plans for heritage places.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote built heritage conservation goals.We're looking for people who have:
Besides a passion for built heritage, you will have built heritage conservation and project management knowledge and experience and hold a degree in a relevant built heritage discipline (Heritage Conservation, Architecture with a specialisation in heritage, or a related field).
In addition to this, you'll have: Extensive experience providing built heritage advice and managing built heritage projects.Strong understanding of heritage legislation and conservation principles.Demonstrated professional experience in the practical application of material conservation techniques.Demonstrated ability to assess built heritage development applications and provide expert recommendations.Experience in project management with the ability to oversee multiple heritage projects simultaneously.Solutions focused with a collaborative work style, and the ability to negotiate with a range of stakeholders for mutually beneficial outcomes.Exceptional interpersonal skills and experience working with internal teams, community groups, and government agencies.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports and present at meetings.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.Be part of shaping the Gold Coast's future
