Book Awards Development Officer (fixed-term)Saltire SocietyDeadline: 05 February 2025 at 23:55The Development Officer will support the ongoing development of The Saltires: Scotland's National Book Awards, building the offer to writers, publishers and readers across Scotland and further afield.The Saltires: Scotland's National Book Awards recognise exceptional talent across Scotland's contemporary literary scene.
The awards are promoted by The Saltire Society, one of Scotland's leading supporters of culture.The Development Officer will be involved in shaping the awards including collaborating with colleagues on income generation and marketing/PR, and will lead on exciting new areas of programme development for which we have funding in place.This is a varied and challenging role for an organised self-starter engaged with the book world.EMPLOYMENT0.5 FTE (17.5 hrs/week); £32,000 (pro-rata); fixed term 12 months.
Some out-of-hours work will be required.You will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following areas:Strategy/fundraising- Collaborating with the Director on development of the offer in order to ensure effective & impactful delivery for Scottish writing communities and individuals- Collaborating with the Director to identify opportunities to develop income generation from sponsorship & other sources.Management- Day-to-day management of programming from pre-launch to evaluation, including inception of new activity streams- Event management for Shortlisting and Final Ceremony- Ensuring value for money through negotiations with providers and suppliers to ensure good terms and service- Reporting as required to board/committees.Marketing/PR- Collaborating with the Director and other colleagues/contractors to ensure effective marketing & PR for the Awards.Person specificationEssential- Previous professional experience in literature (arts sector or publishing industry)- Previous experience of project/programme management including public-facing events- Programme design/development experience to contribute to high-level programme development discussions- Financial and commercial acumen including budgeting and reporting experience- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills- Excellent organisational skills- Problem-solving.Desirable- Previous experience of fundraising and/or sponsorship generation- Previous experience of external relations management and partnership development- Previous experience of prize administration.To applyPlease send a covering letter (2 pages A4 max) and a CV to ****** by Wednesday 5 February 2025 at 11.59pm.The deadline is Wednesday 05 February 2025 at 23:55.
