Job Description The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a key member of the Technology team, reporting to the Head of Engineering. The key purpose of this role is to implement and embed scaled Agile across how we plan and manage work, fundamentally shifting the way we execute change across technology in partnership with the broader business.
This role involves embedding SAFe Agile practices across release trains, engaging with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to promote continuous improvement and enhance delivery efficiency. It also involves orchestrating and optimising the delivery of high-quality technology solutions that enable business outcomes. To do this you will manage the end-to-end release process, planning, and prioritisation, handling dependencies and risks, and facilitating key Agile ceremonies.
In the role you will Plan software releases of all sizes to ensure timely delivery of benefits. Facilitate enterprise-wide prioritisation within and across teams to ensure delivery of business outcomes. Review and prioritise the backlog of work for Technology Service Teams to ensure business outcomes and cost/value optimization. Support the effective utilisation of Technology resources to deliver business outcomes. Identify and evaluate risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints across the delivery pipeline, and support clearing roadblocks. Identify the engineering team's development needs using the organisation's formal framework and industry best practices and use these tools to uplift performance. Plan and implement actions to build team capabilities, providing training or coaching in Agile Delivery Expertise. Qualifications You will be a strategic and agile leader who excels in identifying and developing team capabilities, managing complex software releases, and ensuring the effective utilisation of resources. You are adept at prioritising work, managing risks, and solving complex problems to deliver high-quality business outcomes. You will have:
Demonstrated capability in implementing agile methodologies (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban) and DevOps practices. Hands-on experience in coaching and setting up agile teams. Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams in dynamic environments. Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and task prioritisation skills. Ability to analyse Agile metrics to drive team performance and commitment to continuous improvement. Strong experience in managing agile delivery within a Scaled Agile (SAFe) framework and delivering significant project portfolios. Excellent communication, interpersonal, stakeholder management skills, and budget management, with SAFe certification and extensive IT/project delivery experience. Experience in retail banking and knowledge of cloud technologies, AI, automation, quality engineering, and integration. What does our recruitment process look like?
