About the roleWe have an opportunity for a Beamline Scientist to join a highly motivated team working on the world leading I11 X-ray Powder Diffraction beamline for a 12 month fixed term contract.You will be working with the Beamline Science and Technical teams to provide scientific and technical support to beamline users.Your key duties will include:Participating in the planning and preparation for user experiments and acting as a local contact.Optimisation and calibration of the beamline.Setting up and installation of sample environments for different experiments.Provision of technical and operational support.Basic scripting, during user visits.Mail-in rapid access programme contribution.There will be opportunities to contribute to the varied in-house research programmes currently running on I11. About YouYou will hold an appropriate First Degree or equivalent as well as a PhD degree/Second degree in chemistry, physics, Earth science, materials science or related discipline.You will have experience in:Data collection, processing and analysis for XRD, particularly at a synchrotron beamline.Diffraction analysis programs such as TOPAS or GSAS.Following Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.Interacting effectively with staff and facility users at all levels.Any further experience or knowledge from the following areas is desirable:Basic crystallographic concepts and data analysis methods (e.g., whole pattern fitting, Rietveld etc.).Collection of XRD data under non-ambient conditions e.g. variable temperature (cryostream, hot air blower, cryostat), gas dosing or battery cycling.Python Scripting.
