Director, ATODS Policy

We are seeking a skilled Director to lead the important work undertaken by the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug and Sexually Transmissible Infections and Blood Borne Viruses (ATODS) Policy team within the Population Health Policy Branch. The Population Health Policy Branch drives system change to improve the health and wellbeing of all Canberrans through preventive and population health policy, programs and activities.
The Alcohol, Tobacco, Other Drug, Sexually Transmissible Infections and Blood Borne Viruses Policy team works to ensure Canberrans have access to appropriate treatment and harm reduction services for substance use disorders and Sexually Transmissible Infections and Blood Borne Viruses, as well as driving ACT policy on these issues.
You will be required to lead a team undertaking project, program and policy work related to current and emerging health issues in the ACT. This includes team management, stakeholder engagement, providing policy advice to government, and responding to emerging health issues and priorities.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
Professional / Technical Skills and Knowledge
Previous experience in the development of high level and strategic policy advice, and a solid understanding of Government processes in the ACT. Proven high level ability to liaise, communicate and negotiate effectively with a range of high-level and diverse internal and external stakeholders. Behavioural Capabilities
Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate change to meet organisational needs. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and supervision within a team environment. The ability to plan, organise and prioritise work, including demonstrated experience in working effectively to meet tight deadlines. Display behaviours that are consistent with the ACTPS values of Respect, Integrity, Collaboration, and Innovation. Compliance Requirements/Qualifications
Knowledge, experience and/or tertiary qualifications in public health and/or working on issues related to populations experiencing disadvantage and/or marginalisation would be highly regarded.
Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
Notes: This is a temporary position available from February 2025 for a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
