We sit on the legal panels of three of Australia's top four general insurers, as well as a number of other local and international insurers.The primary focus of this role will be defending claims against professionals including those in the construction industry, financial services and legal sector as well as defending claims in the health and medical sector (medical malpractice).You will be responsible for and have carriage of your own files, with appropriate supervision from our supportive and industry leading partners.Your responsibilities will include:Client interaction and strategyWorking with a small team of lawyers (for those at Senior Associate level, this will include supervising junior members of the team)Reviewing documents and preparing evidenceDrafting correspondence to the Court and third partiesConferencing with witnesses and preparing witness statementsPreparing briefs for counselDrafting Court documents and attendance at CourtDrafting client advicesDrafting letters of instruction to expertsAbout youYou will ideally have the following skills and experience:A minimum of 3 years of post-admission experience in general insurance lawExperience in professional indemnity / financial lines mattersExperience in the day-to-day management of files and in running matters through court proceedingsA team player, with a 'can do' attitude, and a strong interest in defendant insurance lawExcellent technical, analytical and drafting skills with a keen attention to detailExcellent verbal and written communication skillsThe ability to organise and prioritise effectivelyFor more senior candidates, experience supervising and mentoring junior lawyersAbout usHall & Wilcox is a leading independent Australian law firm.
