About your new team:
Forming part of the Orygen Specialist Program (OSP), a program of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings (Parkville and Cherry Creek sites) to young people and their families/carers.
Orygen and Youth Justice staff work collaboratively to support young people voluntarily admitted to the new Mental Health Unit (MHU) at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Custodial Precinct. Develop your clinical mental health skills within a first-of-its-kind voluntary eight bed forensic mental health unit.

Your new role
Join our dynamic, multidisciplinary team and collaboratively provide recovery-oriented mental health treatment and support to young people in custody. Deliver mental health nursing care from a Strengths-Based, Recovery-Focused framework and a strong focus on the unique recovery journey of each young person.
The role incorporates 1:1 therapeutic time with young people, consumer-advocacy, collaborative bed and unit management, research, supervision and mentorship/preceptorship and facilitation of groups.
This new key leadership position supports young people in CCYJP who are admitted on a voluntary basis. In this role, you will also:
Work closely with the NUM and assist with efficient operation of the clinical environment, workforce management and ensuring clinical standards to achieve a high quality of service delivery. Assume responsibilities in the absence of the NUM.
Be the primary point of contact for clinical issues and a resource for staff on each shift.
Facilitate comprehensive consultation, liaison and negotiation with young people, families/carers, and various other members of a multidisciplinary team.
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and be responsible for the delivery of high-quality evidence-based nursing care to young people across a 24/7 roster and a range of specialty complex areas.
Deliver group and individual psychosocial recovery-based care to young people.
About you:
Registration as a Nurse under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
Bachelor Degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or equivalent, or Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
Post-graduate qualification in Mental Health.
Comprehensive experience in the application of clinical and nursing practice in youth mental health including risk assessment, mental state assessment, psychoeducation, care coordination, and partnering with young people and their family/carers.
Ensuring high standards of clinical practice through staff supervision, clinical review, training and professional development.
Knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant settings is highly desirable.
