Job Details: The Assistant Simulation Operator can be employed into two categories within the EXCON / SIMCON team. Ops Administrators (in the Event Support and Administration team) plan synthetic training events. This includes scenario design, database management and general administration of the training event schedule and resource inputs. Ops Administrators liaise closely with Cubic's Technical Integration team and various internal and external stakeholders to meet training objectives. Once the synthetic training scenario is designed and built, the Ops Administrators transfer responsibility onto the Professional Interactors (Event Interactors) for training event execution. The Ops Administrators will then work on planning and administration for future training events.
When directed by the EXCON / SIMCON Lead, the Assistant Simulation Operator will act in either the Event Support & Administration or Event Interactor role.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Simulation Operator is to:
Provide tactically accurate blue-force and/or red-force professional interactor functions and demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
Anti-submarine warfare tactics and procedures; Advanced anti-air warfare tactics and procedures; Air battle space management; Joint Fires Use civilian and military supported databases to develop global threat data specifications, performance and tactics for input into NSWC simulation platform databases. Assist NSWC client organisations with planning and generating synthetic collective training activities. Configure entity and game scenario specifications into all simulator databases as prescribed by NSWC client organisations. Develop global threat data specifications, performance and tactics through ADF and civilian supplied databases, and the data's input into all databases required for a programmed synthetic activity. Generate and maintain standard operating procedures for database configuration and testing. Configure all combat system trainers for use in synthetic collective activities as prescribed by OIC NSWC or the NSWC client organisation. Configure voice communications circuits in all combat system trainers. Configure GCCS-M architecture to facilitate connectivity between land-based and sea-going simulation sites. Liaise with network agencies, including liaison with uniformed and civilian personnel across all three services and coalition partners. Provide input for exercise related pre and post-event documentation. Provide recommendations through the manager for methods for streamlining procedures and practices undertaken by the section. Assist TECHINT in validating systems configuration and functionality prior to execution phase. Conduct system operability testing of the simulation control rooms as part of system start up procedure, reporting defects identified to the event supervisor. Provide initial and continuation on-the-job training for civilian and uniformed personnel. Role Requirements: Familiarity and experience working with Naval Combat Management Systems (5+ years). Good understanding of the RAN's operational structure, capabilities, warfighting principles, and doctrine. 5+ years - experience/familiarity with ADF operations and exercise requirements. Good personal and professional communication skills and ability to collaborate with other Defence agencies. The ability to work un-supervised, assist in the delivery of structured training programmes, and deliver complex synthetic event coordination. Ability to work effectively as part of a team of military and ex-military personnel. A high level of IT user skills and some systems admin skills. Desirable: Background in one or more of the following roles:
Former surveillance control officers; Fighter controller; Air battlespace manager; Simulation pilot; ASW fixed or rotary wing taco or sensor operator; Anti-submarine aircraft controller; Members of a task group/force staff. Condition of Employment: Successful outcome of a National Police Check.
It is a prerequisite that the Assistant SIMOPS has a minimum security clearance of NV1.
