The key duties of the position include: About the Equity, Entitlements and International Labour Branch
The Equity, Entitlements and International Labour Branch is responsible for developing and implementing policy relating to long-service leave, portable entitlements, pay equity and workplace relations reforms supporting women's workforce participation.
Additionally, the Branch also has oversight of the Coal Mining Industry (Long Service Leave Funding) Scheme, the Commonwealth's only portable entitlements scheme for employees in the black coal mining industry.
The Branch is also responsible for managing Australia's representation to the International Labour Organization, working across the department and government to negotiate, ratify and report on international labour standards and promoting fundamental labour standards in other bilateral and multilateral fora.
About the Technology, Institutions and Consultation Branch
The Technology, Institutions and Consultation Branch leads the development and implementation of a strategic consultation approach for the Workplace Relations Group on workplace relations reforms.
This includes providing secretariat support for meetings of Workplace Relations Ministers, the National Workplace Relations Consultative Committee, the National Construction Industry Forum and other consultative bodies.
Additionally, the Branch has policy oversight of the Fair Work Commission and the role of the courts in workplace relations matters, and the impacts of workplace relations reforms on small business.
The Branch also leads workplace relations engagement on the use of artificial intelligence and regulatory technology in the workplace and the Competition Review of non-compete clauses in employment contracts.
About the Roles

As Assistant Secretary, you will contribute to the overall strategic direction of the department, including driving policy review and implementation.
You will support the Executive team in the provision of high quality and timely advice to Government and will contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of the department.
You will lead development of outcome-focused performance measurements that support and enable the delivery of positive outputs, as well as providing concentrated assurance and compliance activities, data and reporting along with research, evaluation and capability development.

Ensure a smooth flow of information to, and a high level of cooperation with Executive, Ministers office and relevant senior staff on internal and external communication and engagement, parliamentary and government relations, and national media.
Lead the successful delivery of complex and time critical operational and strategic projects.
Develop an environment that ensures sound planning, effective risk management, continuous improvement, and a strong service delivery focus.
Provide leadership and marshal expertise in policy delivery, data, performance, assurance and integrity to deliver on whole of government priorities.
The successful candidate will exemplify the characteristics set out in the SES Band 1 Integrated Leadership System, the APS Leadership Capability Framework and the Secretaries Charter of Leadership Behaviours.
Please note, under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.
These are designated security assessed positions.
The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 Security Clearance.
This selection process may be used to establish a merit pool.
The pool might be accessed to fill ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies for similar roles in the Department over the next 18 months.
