Oxley Vale Public School is a P3 school with 382 students enrolled as of November, 2024. 38% of students identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and the school is steadily increasing in cultural diversity, creating a vibrant and inclusive school community.At Oxley Vale Public School we foster a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student is known, valued and cared for. Through the collective expertise and dedication of our teaching staff, we cultivate academic excellence, empowering all students to reach their full potential and thrive.The school prides itself on being cohesive and collaborative, working closely with parents and community groups including local Aboriginal elders, support services, and local businesses. The school has a Family Occupation and Education Index of 130 and is organised into 13 mainstream classes and 3 multi-categorical support classes.The Assistant Principal Special Education teaches one of the 3 multi-categorical classes in the school, leads and supervises the support class teaching staff, and oversees all aspects of teaching and learning for staff and students in the 3 support classes. The Assistant Principal is part of the school leadership team along with the Principal, Deputy Principal, and 4 Assistant Principals.Selection CriteriaIn addition to the general selection criteria:Approval to teach Special Education and/or demonstrated successful experience teaching students in a support class with complex needs related to intellectual, physical, communication and mental health (including emotional disturbance, behaviour disorder, trauma) disabilities, autism and sensory processing.Knowledge of and successful experience implementing evidence-based wellbeing and behaviour support programs with the capacity to lead and support a team in the implementation of these systems.Experience developing successful access requests and implementing engaging transition and integration programs.General Selection CriteriaSuccessful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning, and classroom practice.Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.ConditionsAn unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
