Position Information The Ponds Principal Network is located in the rapidly growing northwest area of Sydney and covers schools in both The Hills and Blacktown LGAs. The network is comprised of 12 primary schools, 4 high schools and 2 schools for a specific purpose. There are approximately 17,000 students in the network and 145 indigenous students, with 70% of students having a language background other than English. The Assistant Principal - Learning and Support will be based at John Palmer Public School in The Ponds. The successful applicant will support all schools in the network in collaboration with other key members of the 'Team Around A School'. The role involves supporting teachers with adjusting educational programs, NCCD, curriculum differentiation and behaviour. The successful applicant will also deliver professional learning for learning and support teachers through network meetings and provide individual advice to schools. Selection Criteria In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach students with learning and support needs (K-12) and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs (K-12) in regular classes. Capacity to provide specialist assistance to students in regular classes with additional learning and support needs and their teachers. Experience working with students with challenging learning needs, behaviours, and/or mental health conditions. Capacity to collaborate, promote and support the development of effective learning and support teams within schools and an understanding of disability legislation. Highly developed interpersonal, communication, organisational and management skills to provide professional support to a range of school-based personnel. General Selection Criteria 1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
