Assistant Manager, Safety, Department of Justice and Community Safety Contemporary approach to occupational health and safety (OHS)Salary Range $ 117,718 - $128,897. About the Role The Assistant Manager, Safety sits within Safety, Wellbeing and Compliance (SWC), a branch of the PSCC in the Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department). The SWC branch provides process, systems, and services to support the department to meet its responsibilities under health and safety laws (Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, Dangerous Goods Act 1985 and Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013).
As the Assistant Manager, Safety you will lead a team of senior safety advisers who partner with the business to deliver advisory services directed at health and safety processes and systems to support the department deliver safe and healthy workplaces for staff.
In this role, you will provide leadership in monitoring existing safety management systems and provide guidance and advice to develop and deliver operational safety excellence in partnership with managers, Health, and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and staff to maximise the effectiveness of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS).
The Assistant Manager, Safety will lead their team and work in partnership with a range of safety and wellbeing stakeholders together with business unit managers. The strategic focus of the team is upon driving improved safety outcomes, through a capability uplift and skill transfer to business unit staff to support the delivery of proactive preventative health and safety strategies, to create a safety-first department.
The role will work in metropolitan and country locations as required across a range of front-line business functions which may include Corrections Victoria, Custodial and Community Corrections, Youth Justice Custodial and Community Services, Sheriff's Operations, Justice Services Programs across the state and a range of corporate business units in implementing safety initiatives, strategies, and programs.
About You Demonstrated success in leading and managing a high performing multidisciplinary team and a working knowledge of human resources and people management.Demonstrated senior relationship management skills and working across multiple stakeholder groups.Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge, understanding and experience in the application of OHS legislation, codes of practice and regulations and the Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances legislation and regulations.Relevant significant industry experience in occupational health and safety management systemsDemonstrated experience in the identification OHS risks and developing, implementing, and evaluating preventative strategies.Demonstrated experience in consulting with managers and staff to provide key outcomes in health and safety, change management and related workplace improvement initiatives.Demonstrated experience in contributing to cultural change in health, safety, and wellbeing.A suitably qualified person, with a diploma in occupational/workplace health and safety is highly desirable.Demonstrated extensive safety experience is desirable.A full and current driver's license is required due to the need to work across different locations.To learn more about the skills you will need to succeed in this role, please read the position description attached to this advertisement.
