ABOUT THE OFFICE The Finance Office plays an integral role in the success of the University ensuring responsible stewardship through financial performance and strategic procurement, with a view to financial sustainability and growth. The Finance Office implements an operating model that enables a greater level of engagement across the University supporting the identification and prioritisation of initiatives that deliver operational efficiencies, and provide reporting solutions that inform decision-making. ABOUT THE ROLE This position assists the Manager Financial Reporting (MFR) with management of financial reporting elements of the University, ensuring maintenance, integrity, accuracy and timely financial accounting, statutory compliance, treasury, insurance, and internal controls. This position will report to the Manager Financial Reporting. Key Responsibilities Support the Manager, Financial Reporting to deliver exceptional reporting and financial outcomes for the University including cash flow management including cash flow forecasting. Provide technical interpretation of legislation, accounting policies and standards, and assess the impact on the University and provide guidance and recommendations on appropriate actions. Take the lead on the annual FBT data gathering and evaluate business processes to identify taxation impacts, ensuring risks are identified and managed to reduce taxation exposures. Provide strategic financial accounting and taxation advice and recommendations to senior leaders on financial/accounting implications of university initiatives and transactions. Contribute to the management of the University Treasury function, including investments and borrowings to maximise financial benefit. Take the lead on the delivery of the University's annual insurance program renewals, working with brokers and the business to gather and review renewal information for insurance arrangements. Identify new insurable risks as well as changes to existing insured risks and make recommendations for effective management of the risks. Support the Business Partnering Team's month-end financial accounting processes and timetables. Assist with the annual audit and year-end processes and delivery of all required year end schedules. Take the lead on the annual review of all financial accounting, treasury and tax policies, guidelines and procedures for improvement and appropriateness. Staff management responsibilities over the Assistant Accountants including review of reconciliations. About You Qualifications & Experience CA/CPA level qualification with relevant experience. Experience in a complex organisation managing the provision of financial accounting and reporting services. Knowledge, skills & abilities Prior supervisory duties of staff will be advantageous and identifying innovative solutions to manage competing workload and business demands. Good knowledge of AASB and IFRS, GST, FBT and Payroll tax legislation. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and experience building collaborative and trusted relationships. High-level accountancy, numeracy & reconciliation skills, with demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy with figures. Demonstrated conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems and business requirementsa Effective organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
