The Data Availability and Transparency Act 2022 establishes a new, best practice scheme for sharing Australian Government data – the DATA Scheme. The DATA Scheme is underpinned by strong safeguards and consistent, efficient processes. It is focused on increasing the availability and use of Australian Government data to deliver government services that are simple, effective and respectful, inform better government policies and programs, and support world-leading research and development.
The National Data Commissioner is the regulator of the DATA Scheme and provides advice and guidance about its operation. The ONDC is an inclusive and diverse team, dedicated to supporting one another to deliver high quality products and outcomes for the Minister, National Data Commissioner, and the Australian public. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The ONDC is seeking candidates for an exciting opportunity to join the ONDC. The ONDC is responsible for implementing the DATA Scheme, established by the Data Availability and Transparency Act 2022. As part of the ONDC, you will work closely with partners within and outside the APS to help shape new opportunities to safely and securely share Australian Government data for public benefit. This includes the opportunity to work with Commonwealth, State and territory government bodies as well as Australian universities.

We are seeking candidates with skills and experience across a range of areas, including: regulatory environments; compliance and accreditation; and generalist policy officers. We have vacancies in two streams:

Compliance, regulation, education and policy Accreditation to the Data Availability and Transparency Scheme Compliance, regulation, education and policy
The compliance, regulation, education and policy stream is central to the National Data Commissioner's advice and guidance function. You'll work collaboratively across teams in the ONDC to provide seamless and holistic advice to stakeholders.

Accreditation
The Accreditation section is responsible for assessing applications from participating entities against a range of expected characteristics including the entity's:

Data management and governance policies and practices Ability to minimise the risk of authorised access, sharing or loss of data The skills and capability of their staff. Within the accreditation stream, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing applications for accreditation under the Scheme, including:

Assessing applications against the criteria and the expected characteristics for Accreditation Working with entities throughout the assessment process to understand their application and obtain more information, as required. Documenting and writing up the assessment for decision by the National Data Commissioner. The ONDC is dedicated to ensuring a collaborative and supportive culture.
