We ensure the right people, with the right skills, are in the right roles to meet our department's goals. Our team works closely with business areas to provide guidance in key areas such as health and safety, workforce planning, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development.Within the branch there are two dedicated Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) sections.The WHS Enterprise team that leads our overall safety strategy and ensures we have a strong safety management system in place.The WHS National Operations team, where this role sits, works directly with our staff and stakeholders to implement this system and provide ongoing support on safety matters.This is where you play an important role.As an Assistant Director within the WHS National Operations team, you will lead a team of Senior WHS Advisors who provide WHS support and advice across the department. You will play a critical role in developing the capability of Senior WHS Advisors to enable them to independently provide contemporary WHS advice to stakeholders.The JobAs the Assistant Director WHS National Operations, you will:Provide expert WHS guidance: Advise executives, senior management, and staff to build safety capabilities and ensure continuous improvement in workplace health and safety practices.Lead incident management: Oversee hazard and incident reporting, investigations, and serious near misses, working with stakeholders to implement effective risk mitigation controls.Support risk management: Assist stakeholders in identifying and reporting risks, enhancing control measures, and providing feedback on WHS strategies for continuous improvement.Drive safety initiatives: Develop and implement WHS strategies and programs that positively influence the safety culture and outcomes across the department.Foster collaboration: Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to address physical and psychological risks and support a high-performing safety culture.Ensure compliance and education: Develop WHS programs, policies, and procedures for compliance, and deliver targeted training to raise awareness of key safety risks.Prepare critical documents: Draft reports, submissions, and correspondence for internal and external stakeholders on complex and sensitive WHS matters.What are we looking forKnowledge and Experience• Comprehensive understanding of the Work Health and Safety Act, Regulations, Codes of Practice, and relevant Australian and International Standards.• Proven application of WHS laws and standards in diverse workplaces with varying hazard profiles.• Minimum of five years' experience in a WHS leadership or management role.
