Details of the offer

The Assistant Director Strategic Intelligence provides leadership and direction to the Joint Military Police Unit (JMPU) Strategic Intelligence Team.
This includes, but is not limited to:
Managing a team of intelligence personnel, including providing mentorship, guidance and performance development. Overseeing the planning, production and dissemination of strategic intelligence products. Presenting the findings of strategic intelligence analysis at key meetings, forums and conferences. Developing and maintaining proactive strategic intelligence sharing and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Working alongside other members of the Directorate to set workplace standards and accountability. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability.
About our Team
The Joint Military Police Unit (JMPU) is the primary policing and law enforcement body for Defence. It is responsible for policing on Defence establishments and conducting investigations into serious misconduct and crime committed by, or involving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
The JMPU Strategic Intelligence Team sits within the JMPU Directorate of Knowledge and Intelligence, and forms part of the Military Police Intelligence Office. The team is primarily Canberra-based, and is comprised of a mix of both uniformed ADF and Australian Public Service (APS) criminal intelligence specialists.
The team works closely with other areas of the JMPU, Military Police Intelligence Office and Defence more broadly to get ahead of crime and disciplinary issues, and identify opportunities to counter criminal threats.
The JMPU Strategic Intelligence Team is responsible for producing timely strategic criminal intelligence products and advice in support of senior ADF decision-makers, military police officers and other key stakeholders within the Defence enterprise. The team is also responsible for undertaking horizon scanning of emerging and long-term risks in the crime landscape that may have an impact on Defence's people, capability and operations.
As such, the team is required to explore and develop subject-matter expertise on issues across a large spectrum of crime and misconduct, leveraging various tools and methods for information collection and analysis. In doing so, the team strives to provide well-founded strategic advice to inform the development of policy, practices and operations to improve the safety and security of Defence.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is an experienced intelligence professional who is comfortable working in a complex, evolving environment. You will be confident in managing expectations upwards and communicating risk on sensitive issues to senior stakeholders, sometimes in restricted timeframes.
You will have experience managing intelligence personnel and programs of work, and will ideally have an understanding of the Defence enterprise and its strategic environment as well as Australian law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
