Assistant Director, Governance and Corporate Reporting Canberra ACT
About the Position The Assistant Director position works within the Governance and Corporate Reporting team and is responsible for managing and delivering a range of the agency's corporate reporting requirements, including:
ARC Corporate plan ARC Annual Report Annual performance statements and performance measure development and reporting Portfolio budget statements Branch Plans and operational reporting ARC's planning and reporting framework. Assisting with other governance requirements as required such as internal audit and risk management.
The key duties of the position include: Duties and Tasks The Governance and Corporate Reporting Section is seeking an Assistant Director with experience or knowledge in corporate reporting and governance, or the ability to quickly gain this knowledge, to join the team. The role will include a range of governance activities, including:
Plan and manage the drafting of the annual report, corporate plan, operational report, annual performance and portfolio budget statements. Develop and administer performance measures for corporate reporting in line with Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act (PGPA Act). Provide high quality advice to Directors and Senior Leadership regarding the work of the team, including preparing highly complex written briefings and reports, drafting Ministerial briefs and providing input to parliamentary requests. Consult and collaborate with staff from across the ARC. Manage the planning and reporting framework and other supporting documents. Effectively manage a small team to achieve deliverables and grow employee capabilities. Assist with a range of other Governance related activities (e.g. risk and audit) and administering the ARC's governance and risk enterprise system. The ability to lead and successfully manage projects by developing clear plans to appropriately scope the required resources and timeframes to accomplish outcomes and confidently manage any issues that arise. Ability to identify and respond to strategic and legislative opportunities and challenges in an evolving environment. Proven ability to deliver highly clear, strategic written documents that meet stakeholder needs. Excellent judgement, strong attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple priorities and respond flexibly in a constantly changing work environment. High level relationship management skills, with the ability to build and sustain strong networks and relationships within the agency and external stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to motivate, guide and develop staff for high performance. Strong research and analytical skills; including the ability to collate and interpret highly complex information. Ability to understand the ARC's role in the Australian research landscape and the associated strategic direction and priorities of the Agency. Getting to know the Australian Research Council The ARC is a non-corporate Commonwealth entity established under the Australian Research Council Act 2001 (ARC Act), located within the Australian Government's Education portfolio, and reporting to the Minister for Education. The ARC is a vital component of Australia's innovation and research system. It plays an integral role in supporting the research sector to produce excellent and impactful research for Australia's economic, social, environmental and cultural benefit through the delivery of the NCGP. The NCGP funds excellent pure basic, strategic basic and applied research in all disciplines except medical research. The ARC's broader remit includes the provision of high-quality research policy advice to the Australian Government, supporting research integrity and promoting ethical research, evaluating the excellence, impact and depth of Australian research and expanding Indigenous Australian knowledge systems. It also facilitates partnerships between researchers and industry, government, community organisations and the international community.
