The Commonwealth Grants Commission (CGC) provides advice to the Australian Government on the distribution of GST revenue among the states and territories. We are a small independent agency operating under the Commonwealth Grants Commission Act 1973 . Our work supports a key part of Australia's federal financial relations.
The CGC consists of:
a Commission comprising a part-time Chairperson
3 part-time Members, appointed by the Governor-General, and
around 35 CGC staff, who provide support and advice to the Commission.

The key duties of the position include
The position plays a key role in supporting the Director Business Enabling Services (BES) and Chief Financial Officer with the agency's finance functions. Given the agency's small size, as a member of the BES team you will need to be versatile, agile, and flexible and will be required, at times, to contribute to other functions and projects.
We are looking for a motivated individual with a "can do attitude", strong emotional intelligence, highly developed interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to build positive relationships across all levels, both internally and externally. You will have experience working in a corporate environment, ideally as a finance generalist, with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in a small agency. You will have demonstrated the ability to proactively identify priorities and take ownership for the delivery of projects and other tasks.
Under limited direction, you will be required to:
Lead and manage aspects of the agency's finance function, including finance policies, financial statements, budgeting, procurement, risk (including secretariat support for the audit and risk committee), property, meeting reporting requirements, and finance and accounting systems
Contribute to other BES functions and projects, including contract management, governance and facilitating organisational change
Maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and collaborate with senior management to implement agency priorities
Manage the work performance and development of junior team members (if/as applicable), and
Other duties as directed.
