The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is an independent government agency which, in partnership with Basin governments, manages the Murray–Darling Basin's water resources in the national interest. With the enactment of the Water Act 2007, the MDBA was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.
The MDBA aims to achieve a healthy working Basin for the benefit of all Australians. The Murray–Darling Basin contains a rich diversity of natural environments that are unique in Australia and the world. The Basin is also crucial to Australia's economy and home to 2.3 million Australians, including people from over 50 First Nations. How we manage the Basin as a whole connected system, manage our water carefully, and protect it for future generations is set out in the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
The PositionThe Data Projects Manager is a leadership role within the Data Services Section. It has a focus on providing project management capability and coordination to the team. This includes contributing design, management, documentation and reporting effort for a range of data projects. The role works closely with other parts of the Business Services Portfolio and the Murray-Darling Basin Authority, other agencies of the Australian Government, the Basin States and Territories and wider stakeholders.
The key duties of the position include:Your key responsibilities in this role are: Lead and coordinate management of data engineering and data management projects in alignment with Data Services strategic planning and prioritisation including, development of project briefs and plans, milestone tracking, contract management, preparation of reporting material, and stakeholder engagement for project solution design and troubleshooting.Accountable for leading activities to promote and establish data management initiatives, including building relationships and representing the MDBA when collaborating.Responsible for determining strategic direction and workplan development of information and data governance activities in support of MDBA corporate and project outcomes.Provide oversight to ensure accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data and analyses produced by the team. Implement quality control procedures and standards.Lead and develop MDBA data management uplift initiatives including preparation of training, communications and engagement material relating to data services functions (including data management, data engineering and geospatial services).Oversee the maintenance and administration of information and data governance systems. Ensure the accuracy, security, integrity, and accessibility of data outputs by analysing and resolving issues.Provide HR and line supervision to small group of Data Services staff, and help navigate staff through unfamiliar circumstances.Manage and uplift enterprise metadata capabilities including DAMF process mapping and data catalogue services.Have extensive knowledge of information and data standards and protocols. Provide advice on, develop and enforce best practices across the team.
