The key duties of the position include: Our Opportunity The Assistant Commissioner / Special Counsel will work with the ALRC President, Executive Director, and Principal Legal Officer to help lead and conduct the inquiry. They will have significant subject matter expertise, good strategic judgement, established stakeholder relationships, strong research and drafting skills, and a collaborative, supportive, and contemporary leadership style.
The Assistant Commissioner / Special Counsel will report to the Executive Director and provide strategic, expert advice to the President, undertake stakeholder engagement, and support the Principal Legal Officer in the project management of the inquiry to ensure the reports and recommendations are best practice and on time.
Who are we looking for? 1. Conducting Inquiries Providing strategic and subject matter advice;Researching and identifying the key issues involved in the inquiry;Using experience to identify stakeholders of particular interest for the inquiry for both consultation and inclusion in any Advisory Committee;Undertaking community consultations;Undertaking high-level analysis of complex issues and submissions;Supporting the inquiry team to draft chapters for consultation documents and the final report;Using analytical and conceptual skills to formulate, draft, and evaluate proposals and recommendations for reform;Attending and potentially chairing ALRC Advisory Committee meetings. 2. Support legal staff Support the Principal Legal Officer in their leadership and project management of the inquiry;Contribute to the cohesion and effectiveness of the inquiry team by fostering a collaborative and cohesive culture, valuing excellence, innovation, and initiative, and sharing experience and knowledge.
