The Role An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic, dedicated, and highly motivated individual with a background in regional languages.
In this role, you will be responsible for carrying out translation, analysis and reporting of materials in languages other than English that are relevant to the work of the Australian Signals Directorate and aligned with national security priorities.
We are interested in a wide range of languages, with current priorities being languages used in Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
ASD provides great opportunities for further language training, and proficiency in non-priority languages are encouraged and supported.
About our Team Our Branch is a multi-disciplinary workforce that conducts in-depth, complex research and analysis of foreign signals intelligence, technical data, and a wide range of policy issues.
Successful candidates will receive specialised on-the-job training, access to relevant industry-related courses to develop your skills and help you build people networks across the National Intelligence Community.
Our Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of regional languages, language studies or a related field. The ideal candidate will also analyse and interpret language data to support various projects and initiatives.
This role requires a deep understanding of language structures, semantics, and syntax, and the ability to learn to work with large datasets and advanced language processing tools.
The successful candidate will also possess excellent analytical skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to communicate complex language concepts to non-experts.
Additionally, the candidate will have the ability to understand values, customs, traditions, and behaviours of people from the mentioned region, an understanding of geopolitical issues, the ability to use analytical tools and data literacy techniques, and to continuously seek out opportunities for professional development and growth.

The ideal candidate will undertake a combination of the following: Analyse and interpret language data from various sources.
Ensure the accuracy and quality of language data.
Provide linguistic expertise to cross-functional teams.
Relevant language expertise and motivation to continually develop their language skills further Using a variety of information and communications technology, record keeping, and information management systems, and analytical tools.
Interpretation of legislative, policy and security frameworks.
Desirable Qualifications, Experience or Training The preferred applicant will demonstrate a proficiency in one or more regional languages and ideally hold a tertiary qualification in language studies, geopolitical issues and cultures, international relations, or other relevant discipline One or more recognised language qualifications are highly desirable.
