$76,277 - $104,753 + up to 15.4% Superannuation Edinburgh - SA The Role The positions primary role is to undertake the following activities: High fidelity physics based hydrocode modelling of warheads effects and target interaction Development and application of advanced instrumentation techniques for warhead testing Materials research including material characterisation and application of novel manufacturing techniques for warhead applications The successful applicant will work in an integrated team environment to meet both research and operational outcomes, in support of defence client priorities.
The successful candidate will be required to work predominately in an office environment but may be required to attend field trials.
Applicants are expected to be able to demonstrate good communication skills and be willing to work as part of a team to achieve the required defence outcomes in the weapons and effectors domain.
About our Team Your role will be an integral part of Advanced Warhead Technology (AWT) Group that is part of Sensors and Effectors Division in DSTG.
AWT conducts research of explosives to enhance defence capability and is responsible for the development, testing and evaluation of existing and novel weapons concepts to support the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
The group maintains expertise in explosive formulation and manufacturing techniques, warhead modelling and design, prototyping and testing.
The successful applicant will reside in the Novel Warheads Experimentation and Modelling (NWEM) discipline within the group.
They will conduct physics based modelling of warheads and their interaction with a target, as well providing materials characterisation and advanced instrumentation capabilities.
Our Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have a degree in Engineering, Physics or related fields (or equivalent experience).
They will have an interest and passion to study complex systems and an inquisitive mind suitable for a research environment.
They will be creative, work well in a small team and have the ability to both show initiative as well follow direction.
They will complete work to a high standard and in a timely manner, and be able to communicate and report results though written and oral communication.
The successful applicant(s) will be expected to work within established work practices and safe operating procedures, and will take responsibility to see tasks through to completion.
The successful applicant will be expected to undergo both on-the-job training and participate in mandatory and formalised learning activities as part of ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
