Our team
Geoscience Australia is coordinating a national positioning capability that enables government, business and academia to access the positioning data and services that are required to solve important challenges and drive innovation.
As a member of the GNSS Infrastructure and Informatics Section you will be at the forefront of developing, operating and maturing world-class positioning infrastructure across Australia, Antarctica and the Pacific.
The role
As the Technical Officer you will support the operation and enhancement of our Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) reference station network across Australia and the surrounding region, including Antarctica and the Pacific.
In this role you will contribute to the operation, maintenance, and modernisation of instrumentation through a combination of site visits and coordination of local contractors and project partners. This role may require occasional travel. A key part of this role will involve working closely with project partners located in the Pacific to build capacity and transfer knowledge and skills through dedicated in-country training sessions.
In this role you will:
Provide key operational and project support in maintaining GNSS reference stations across Australia, Antarctica, and the Pacific. Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders to respond to, and resolve technical issues promptly, maintaining service standards, including network availability and reliability. Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation, including work instructions, technical specifications, site and asset records, commissioning reports, schematics, change requests, contract and procurement documentation. Lead projects to develop technical improvements to modernise and improve the positioning infrastructure, working with consultants, contractors, and partners support for design, implementation, and review. Perform the configuration and testing of equipment as part of planned infrastructure upgrades and as supported by a change management process. Prepare and provide advice, information, and support on GNSS infrastructure to a diverse range of stakeholders both internal and external. Support field operations by building and delivering capacity, coordinating and managing contractors and other specialist service providers or resources where required. Demonstrate leadership in safety by adhering to and improving work practices, ensuring fieldwork and operations prioritise the well-being of technical teams and site personnel within WHS frameworks. Contribute to the positive team culture through continuous delivery, development, agility and stakeholder engagement. To be successful you will:

Technical qualifications in electrical or systems engineering, electronics and communications, or equivalent expertise in operating and maintaining remote infrastructure and instrumentation. Experience planning and safely undertaking fieldwork in remote areas. To Apply
