Our client, the federal regulator of genetic products, is currently looking for a Scientific Evaluator to join their team in a 6 month non-ongoing contract with a possible extension. This position would work with the rest of the team to review various applications of genetic technologies and conduct risk assessments to investigate the risks associated with the technology. These risks would be associated with potential environmental, human and laboratory interactions.Other general duties would also be involved, associated with internal and external stakeholder communication; preparing documents; general correspondence and liaison within government, industry and research institutions.the scope of the role would include:
Provide scientific support to the client including technical aspects of applications for work involving gene technology
Prepare high quality science based risk assessments and risk management plans, consistent with the clients Risk Analysis Framework, in response to industry license applications;
Evaluate applications for certification of facilities for work with GMOs;
Undertake research or other project work on topics relevant to gene technology regulation
Liaise with other staff and external stakeholders, including scientific committee members, government agencies, representatives of research institutions and industry, and members of the public
Provide support for the ongoing operation and enhancement of the regulatory system
An ideal candidate would have the following:
Demonstrated technical knowledge, skills and experience in science, gene technology, science-based regulation and/or risk analysis
Strong research and analysis skills
well-developed liaison, interpersonal and oral communication skills.
Tertiary degree in Molecular biology, genetics, virology or other relevant area.
