APS6 - Cyber Security Analyst, Strategy, Architecture & Cyber Security Branch Organised within the Chief Operating Officer Group within the department, Information Technology (IT) Division's purpose is to connect people and technology, empowering the department to excel.

IT Division is responsible for the consolidated provision and support of stable and secure IT Systems, applications, and services to all department users across all States and Territories, including our Indian Ocean Territories and Norfolk Island, as well as supporting seven Ministerial offices, six Groups, and coordination with portfolio entities.

This new role is based in the Cyber Security Team within the Strategy, Architecture & Cyber Security Branch.

As an experienced analyst in the Cyber Security Team, you will have subject matter expertise in cyber incident response, security control implementation, and will be able to operate critical defensive tools, such as XDR, SIEM, content filters, and vulnerability management platforms.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Detect and respond to cyber security incidents – use defensive tools to detect, triage, and resolve cyber security events and incidents, and produce detailed findings and incident reports.
Develop and configure security controls – design and implement technical controls to mitigate contemporary cyber security threats.
Technical cyber advice and assurance – evaluate and test business and corporate systems and applications against common attack vectors, prescribed hardening and vendor guidance, and provide robust advice on the correct implementation of security controls.
Conduct threat research – analyse and collate cyber threat intelligence from private feeds and open sources, prepare and disseminate advice and response actions to better protect the department against attack.
People and process – develop repeatable and efficient ways of working that streamline and uplift cyber services, foster a positive security culture, and implement programs to develop cyber skills and careers.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about contemporary cyber technology and is comfortable working with cloud platforms.
Knowledge and experience with SIEM, cyber threat intelligence, vulnerability management, and threat mitigation is essential.

Minimum requirements for this role include:
Demonstrated skills and experience in technical cyber security roles and/or relevant certifications in a cyber security field.
Ability to provide a strategic level of specialist, professional and/or technical subject matter expertise.
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including strong attention to detail.
Ability to provide timely and concise advice to inform and support executive decision making.
Ability to establish and maintain key strategic relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

Eligibility requirements
Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:
Citizenship: To be eligible for employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.
Health Assessment: the preferred candidate may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department's preferred medical provider.
Security Clearance: the successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at the NV1 level.
You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.
You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances.
