$91,702 - $104,753 + up to 15.4% superannuation Edinburgh - SA The Role The RAAF Institute of Aviation Medicine (IAM) is seeking a Data Scientist to join the Aeromedical Analysis and Decision Support (AADS) Team.This position offers a rare opportunity to be involved in enabling and supporting Defence aviation through the production of aeromedical guidance tailored to provide Commanders and aviation safety stakeholders with information necessary to support decision making in areas related to human performance, aeromedical hazards, and aviation safety.Working in an organisation that values innovation and expertise, you will be collaborating with uniformed and civilian aviation medicine specialists to contribute to the important body of work that AADS draw from to provide timely and appropriate guidance to both Defence and non-Defence stakeholders.In your role as Data Scientist, you form part of a small close-knit team of specialists to deliver the following duties: Provide expert advice on the generation and analysis of data as part of research activities undertaken by members of the AADS team; Perform data processing and analysis where required to value-add to team outputs.Within scope of expertise, perform data collection and analysis for directed tasking;  Provide guidance for compliance with ethical and legislative frameworks within Defence, and assist AADS team members to prepare ethics applications; Provide policy advice and contribute to policy development with Defence aviation and safety related policies; Provide support to internal and external tasks encompassing physiological responses to challenging conditions of flight, physical and cognitive ergonomics, human systems integration, crashworthiness and survivability, interaction with life support equipment, and the health and wellbeing of aircrew and controllers; Develop verbal and written evidence-based advice to support Command decision-making on matters related to human performance, safety, and operational capability; Participate in peer review of reports prior to section lead endorsement and dissemination to stakeholders; Promote within IAM the structured approach to developing an evidence-based information package to support Command decision-making, and foster this behaviour through example and mentorship; Monitor and review efficacy of guidance produced with relation to Defence Health and aviation policy, and provide evidence-based framework to ensure advice remains contemporary and relevant; Assist the Principal Advisor to scope emerging tasks, and develop a priority-based strategy to meet task requirements; Assist the Principal Advisor to provide guidance and support to other analysts within AADS, as well as IAM personnel and other Defence members seeking advice on decision support activities.About our Team IAM is the ADF unit providing domain expertise in aviation medicine and human factors, supporting aviation capability across the Tri-Services, providing specialist guidance and expert advice for: Specialist advice in aviation medicine/human factors; Human-systems integration and ergonomics regarding operating aircraft or control systems; Interface between aircrew and life-support systems; Hazard analysis and advice in assessment/management of risks arising from human physiology, ergonomics, anthropometry, medical factors, or human performance limitations; Assessing likelihood and consequence of medical hazards in aircrew and controllers, and working with risk-holders within a harmonised Defence risk-management system; Supporting unit-level investigations arising from aviation safety events, or formal investigations for aircraft incidents;
